Refining (EQ2)

Crafting Guides

Refine is a Tradeskill Prestige Ability introduced with Chains of Eternity. It's part of the "Refining" ability set.

Once you are Tradeskill level 90 you will start acquiring a Tradeskill Prestige point every 20% of a level. Press "L" to open your Character Development Window. Then Press the "Tradeskill Prestige" button on the left. Develop the left-hand column to earn Refining abilities. Refining is the last choice in the left column, and requires 15 points put into the Refining tree.

Salvaging refine harvestables into pure harvestables, which will add attributes to items made with them.. It works like Transmuting.

Player Beta testing gave these results:

  • common harvests refine to vendor-sellable slag(and very rarely into a purified rare material of the same basic type)
  • rares refine to a purer form of the rare
    • tested at a 50-50 chance of a rare or sellable slag
  • The first rank in this allows you to salvage once an hour, then each additional rank reduces the cooldown 15 minutes until it's instant

When you've earned the Refine Ability you select it, then select an item to Refine.

Limitations

It only works on harvestables, and not Transmution results, harvested quest items, or purchased items. When we tested it on Beta it did not work on harvested fish, meat or foodstuffs. You can only refine one item at a time, regardless of how many are in the stack.

If you have The Hand of the Maker, from the Cobalt Scar Crafting series, equipped then you can refine 10 at a time.

Working with Refined Materials

You can use purified rares when crafting gear like weapons, armor, and jewelry. If you do so the result will have a 10% boost to primary stats and many blue stats. There are some blue stats that cannot be boosted (such as block chance), and a couple of blue stats that will only give a 5% boost. The item also gets a "Refined" tag to differentiate from regular Mastercrafted gear.

With GU66 refined bonus is now preserved when imbuing.

Selling Refined Items

The broker does not currently support the Refined tag, so you cannot search the broker for Refined items.
