SOE Grants Members Two Free Days

Service interruptions continue to plague SOE players.

Sony Online Entertainment has been plagued by DNS problems since early Tuesday morning, causing players to intermittently be unable to access SOE websites, forums, and games. Today SOE issued an apology on their forums (if you can get to them) and social media:

We deeply regret the recent service interruption. We will be adding two days of membership time to all members’ accounts.

Because domain registration can take a while to filter through internet service providers everywhere, players may continue to have issues. In cases like this things are usually completely resolved within 48-72 hours. If you don't want to wait, you can also try to flush or map your DNS.

What the hell kind of compensation is that... how about 500 SC or 24 hours 2X bonus for your illiterate recommendation to re-program our ISP due to your goof !

Two day's of added membership is like trying to get rid of the current Administration in the White House. What a joke.........................

I understand mistakes happen.. BUT . not paying for the renewal of the domain registration.. Who are you kidding and how many folks at SONY got fired for it. That is not a small error... that is a major error in the business world.

The lack of professionalism as well as follow through after all these years really astounds me

I'm a non-paying member but I wasn't granted 2 free days.

I mean,
Shouldn't I be getting like my AAs transferred from 250max to 8000max or something?
What about my merc who's not on my AA list -- Shouldn't she now be on it?
Free mount?
More toon slots?
A free Heroic Toon?
Actual help from the GMs when I petition about my PvP status?

And I mean,
What's to say I won't be stripped of these after all-access?
Where will my AAs go?
My mount? Stays?
My items in my Trader when the timer goes off?

I have a lot of questions -- Anyone have some answers, please?

I guess you skipped my post. They are only granting those 2 free days to "paying" members who have all access by the looks of it. Otherwise your Everquest accounts would have had the Gold Status instead of either Free to Play or Silver.

Any aa you gain while playing with gold membership you get to keep and use after you are no longer gold. Same thing with your mounts and everything else. The items from the trader you have set up will still be yours. You just won't be able to sell stuff in the bazaar till you get gold membership.

I suppose they have some expectation that you pay them something before they'll give you something for free. I paid for Everquest for probably 6 years, but I'm not sure they owe me anything... Enjoy continuing to play for free!
try this it worked for me

ok I guess I'm not that computer savvy. Tried to do what you had written and couldn't even get to the protocol, So I'm back to my original question. When are they supposed to have the regular log in screen fixed? I'm going to be extremely upset if I can't get in by the weekend!

If anyone is wondering it looks like they meant "paying" members as in All Access which is most likely why they never mentioned any games specifically. My Everquest accounts are silver membership and none have been upgraded to gold. That would have been awesome getting the upgrade for 2 days though for the free aa points on characters that are on accounts i have never paid for gold membership on since the game went free to play.

I understand that they made a mistake. But when will games be back up? I have tried several of things others say to do, but so far, no love. I love these games and enjoy my time on several of them. Am admitting to suffering from withdrawals. (snickers)

Please let them be up before the Moonlit Madness event.
Still having issues accessing EQ?... Simple fix for me.

If you're still having issues trying to login....after reading multiple "fixes" and shortcuts, I found that a simple fix for me was just unplugging (resetting) my modem and router for a few minutes.
I usually have no luck when it comes to taking shortcuts or "quick fixes", (i.e.,) routing through a Google server (which is unsecure) vs. the SOE server, which usually cause more headaches than just waiting a little while longer.

I was tempted to try that route but all I'd do is make more of a mess for myself in the long run. I would recommend trying THIS simple fix (for me, at least) before you go switching DNS servers and wiping your DNSconfig's.......

Hope this works for you!!!!....???

U know i think they do a really good job on this and no I dont work for soe but they got players from all over the world and it is the biggest online game and best game there is. I rarely ever have any downtime ever I might add. It was worrying me that my comp was ******** up but doh I couldnt get in at all to see what the problem was. We dont pay a fortune to play to start with so I wish u guys would give em a break once in a while. I never see very, very, few posts about how good they really are to us and they are. When the game runs for months without a glick y dont you same people that slam em give em a hey you are doing great!!! So I am having withdrawals bigtime but thx soe for the greatest game there is anyway. And in my eyes it is and always will be... Linyan...

Here's the thing...

It's a lot of fun...
I just got my Veteran Reward Merchant (It's awesome) ...
I have 7 80+ Toons: SHM, SHD, BER, MAG, BST, NEC, WIZ...
EQ has had multi-day glitches before...
It's a crazy complex system that bugs and occaisonally breaks (or bends)...

THEY DIDN'T PAY A BILL THAT WE PAY FOR MONTHLY ???!!!???!!!

No Excuse.

PS (Wrong email. B-B-B-Bu11$hit.)

Feldon over at EQ2 Wire gave a great explanation in the comments in his article.

The short version was that the domain registration renewal went to the wrong place (according to Smed's tweet) and SOE didn't re-register the web address all those games and forums and websites use. So all the directions that tell your browser how to get to www.whatever.com were missing.

The delay is it takes 2-72 hours for every but of the internet that needs that address book to get the info.
