Oh, how I wish we could have an old-fashioned rant session about Blue Mage.

I enjoyed it for what it was.

Same. It's far from perfect, but I didn't walk away disappointed.

I think the biggest issue is people not understanding that you can't always get what you want. Yoshida said years ago that they had no plans to add BLU because it couldn't work like other jobs, and if they did it would probably be separate side content. People kept begging though, and now everyone is all shocked and appalled that got exactly what was promised. The devs warned us about this years ago. It's not his fault the fans didn't believe it.

I haven't touched Blu... which isn't really said as a complaint. I had no interest in the job then or now.

But if rdm had been introduced as side content, I'd have been heartbroken. Yoshi-P has said lots of things about FFXIV over the years that never exactly panned out, and, to me, the concept of limited jobs is something that either needs LOTS of work, or probably should have been left on the cutting-room floor. I just don't see the point in playing a job that can't participate in the bulk of the newest content. While I hate slapping content with simplistic terms, blu just seems like an intricate minigame compared to all the other jobs.

I'm okay with the concept of limited jobs. Not everything needs to be centered around endgame progression. It's fine to have self contained side content. In this particular case I think there are some baffling design choices (solo centric yet half the spells locked behind dungeons and trials, etc) but I have no problem with the DF lockouts and such. I'll admit I got bored of it fairly quickly, but I don't feel that BLU was wasted dev time.

I'd like the concept of limited jobs better if these jobs had their own form of endgame raiding... maybe something that gets away from Trinity-based playstyle, since these jobs could all be self-sufficient in numerous ways. Or, since limited jobs might seem to appeal to people who don't have the connections and time for hardcore raiding, perhaps this could be where hardcore four-person content comes into play.

It's ironic that an ostensibly solo job was one of the best social experiences I've ever had in FFXIV.

I think we really don't know enough about the future plans for limited jobs overall (and blu in particular) yet. And honestly, that's SE's fault. They've done quite a poor job communicating their intentions here. I think this is interesting side content that has a lot of potential for growth, but SE needs to put some more cards on the table regarding the future of this system.

Don't you think limited jobs would be easier to flesh out if FFXIV weren't so darn vertical?

As it stands, the big pitfall I see with future development is say if you eventually have like three limited jobs -- and then each of those requires its own dungeons and endgame -- then that's a ton of development time for something that's outside of the main area of gameplay.

Yeah exponential growth in the system is a legit concern. We'll just have to see what happens.

I don't think the vertical system is a real problem here as limited jobs seem to operate largely outside it (or at least BLU does).
