Summary

Agapito wants you to find out the meaning of the following words: "Under a full moon, toward the stars of Ifrit, a bird delivers a letter to the ship in the sky." Also, try to bring back this "letter" to satisfy Agapito's curiosity.

Walkthrough

This quest only pertains to any player who has obtained rank 5 or purchased an airship pass. Agapito, who is outside the air travel agency in Port Bastok, normally says you aren't yet ready to travel on the air ships notices you have an air ship pass! He has a riddle for you to solve and asks if you can retrieve the letter he seeks.

"Under a full moon, towards the Stars of Ifrit, a bird delivers a letter to the ship in the sky."

In order to obtain the letter of which he speaks you must travel on in the right conditions. In this case, it is the air ship from Jeuno to San D'Oria (or vice versa) ONLY. When the moon is full, ride an air ship between Jeuno and San D'Oria and look on the rail of the ship for a ???. Be sure to ride the air ship during the night time (or when the moon is visable). This only works on the air ship between the two cities Jeuno and San D'Oria, it does not matter which city you are traveling to/from.

Check /clock and when you see that it reads "Full Moon (90%)" this is your cue to ride the air ship. You can ride anytime at night between these two cities as long as there is a Full Moon. The percentage does not matter. (EDIT: Seems it needs to be 90% or better)

Click the ??? and you will get a key item, "Carrier pigeon letter." Return to Agapito with the letter and he is disgusted to find out it is only a love letter. He gives you 2100 gil and the title "Star of Ifrit."

"My name on a silly love letter? You must be mistaken."
Something like that

Well you could just look up in the sky at the moon. If it is full then it is full. You can also tell what day it is by the color of the moon. Green=Windsday Yellow=Earthsday Red=Firesday White=Lightsday Purple=Thundersday and so on.

When you finish this quest, go to the Steaming Sheep in Port Bastok and talk to Carmelo. You will get quest from him.

Confirmed: San D'oria <-> Jeuno only because its the only airship that leaves at the time of the full moon at night.

It's Jueno <-> San d'Oria because the riddle says "toward Stars of Ifrit," which means San d'Oria.

The full moon lasts several DAYS. A lot of ships come and go in that time, don't slap inaccurate information up.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 12 2004 at 2:05 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) How do you buy an airship pass? Who sells them? Where is the NPC (non player character)who sells them? How do you get to the NPC. What does the airship pass cost?

...
you can buy the airship pass from an NPC in the chamber of commerce building on lower jeuno infront of the auction house for 500,000Gil.
other than that just get rank 5 and you'll receive the airship pass free.

Uhh...its not pointles... If you change nations, you still have your Airship pass, so if you complete rank 5 in your 2nd and 3rd nation it will give 20k instead of 10k =O very nifty if you ask me ^^

I went through all of the trouble going to the Metalworks, talking to the girl with the astrology map, saw that the Ifrit constellation is in the Northeast, and decided that Bastok to Jeuno was the ship to take. I did it under a full moon too...I wonder why San D'oria is the right choice?

BTW yea you need medium fame in Bastok, at least enough for getting the Mog Safe quest (28 I believe), the description above says its 35, that isn't far off.

If Ifrit is in the northeast, then San d'Oria is the only choice because it is the only city which would require the airship to go across the northern sky. Bastok doesn't make any sense at all, since it is in the southwest of Vana'diel.. flying from Bastok, you would go in a northeasterly direction, but you would not be in the north at all since you are only flying to Jeuno which is in the middle.

I think you can still find the ??? without the quest if you fly during the right conditions, i.e. to/from San during the night of a full moon, but a friend said all it says is you see a pile of bird droppings on the railing.

Bastok has Titan as it's guiding star. (You should notice the yellow dot in the sky.)

True, but the star chart has Ifrit as a constellation in the northeastern quadrant, and the only flight that heads northeast is the one from Bastok to Jeuno. I guess it all depends on how you look at it.

Actually you misread the map. Ifrit is in the northwest corner.

Celestial maps leave north at the top (as is usual) but this entails putting west on the left because you're looking upwards at the sky, not downwards at the ground like for terrestrial maps. (If you face south and look up at the sky, north is at the top of your vision, east to the left, and west to the right.)

[Edit] The map is labelled correctly with east and west, but we're so used to terrestrial maps such a detail is easy to overlook.

More than just the Pass

I have obtained rank 5 and have an airship pass yet Agapito still says I'm not ready. So you either need a fairly high fame level in bastok or there is a pre-requisite quest to getting this one that I haven't done yet.

He's standing with a woman NPC right by the door of the arrival's section of the Airship Agency in Port Bastok.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 15 2004 at 2:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I was thinking that I would have to take a ship to Kazham during a full moon. I thought this because of Ifrit's Cauldron.
Thanks!
