Summary

Something is amiss in Eldieme Necropolis. Observe the fiends and find a solution.

Walkthrough

To begin, you need to talk to Dietmund in Lower Jeuno, the same guy that you had to talk to unlock the BST job. After that, buy a piece of Mahogany lumber, take it to the little boy named Osker in Upper Jeuno in the Chocobo stables. He will fashion a key item, a whistle. After recieving the whistle, you will head to Eldieme Necropolis.

You must enter the Eldieme Necropolis from Beaucedine Glacier. Once you're inside, the tomb is located at D-4, and its the furthest one back and to the left. Once you clear the room of ghosts, click on the tomb and two tigers named Taifun and Trombe and a undead hound named Sturm will pop. The tigers are charmable at 60, fairly easily. The tigers do the regular tiger abilites so try to bring along atleast another BST with you to charm the other one as well, since they have AoE Paralyze and some nasty damaging attacks. The real challenge is the undead hound.

You only need to defeat the hound. If you charmed the tigers (which I would highly recommend) they will poof after the hound dies. Inspect the tomb again, you will get a long cutscene and then recieve your Beast Trousers.

75 Nin/dnc solable np, other suggestions
# Apr 21 2009 at 4:18 PM Rating: Decent
>Solo'd this as Nin/dnc couple days ago; popped tomb closest to wall (was on left wall as viewed walking into room). Did this at night with nin boots (initial idea to use zoning technique), headed to zone with Sturm & only one tiger visually linked. While heading to zone, noted Sturm lost aggro and headed back at final right turn. Headed back reaggro'd Sturm tanked both near zone.
>Both have poor acc on 75 nin (tiger missed about 99% time); Sturm killed - tiger despawned, then got final cs back at tomb. In after thought, as 55 bst, could have brought a pamama & couple hipots, subbed bst, then fought in place (tiger pet vs tiger, me against sturm).
>Anyway food for thought on solo'g at 75. Might even give Sam/bst a thought on this too, or Sam/dnc if you want to do all 3 (eva-Seigan/3eye setup, some amount of tp based self curing I'd guess).
>Definitely a 75 lvl Soloable fight on any job, using bst sub, zoning technique, or high eva job.
Solo as 73 bst/whm
# Mar 15 2009 at 8:45 PM Rating: Default
It took me a couple tries to figure this out but I was finally able to solo this as a 73 bst/whm (without Gaudy Harness) using only CC and Pet Food Zeta.

First, summon CC and kill the hound by the tomb, building up TP. Then buff up and make sure CC is at 100%. Cast sneak. Go to the tomb at the back left, cast invisibility and at 75% inspect the tomb. You will spawn Sturm without agroing them.

Then pull Sturm with CC. The tigers won't link. Heel and bring him back to the staircase outside the tomb. Dia II and engage in melee right away. The better your melee gear the better, and if you have a fellowship NPC of reasonable level this should be cake (I didn't use one). When CC is at 80%, which should be pretty fast, use Reward. Weaponskill whenever you can. If you built up TP on the hound before, you can WS right away. Just remember to Snarl after.

CC will die but you should have him at 50%. Call another CC and Snarl. Then you should be able to finish him off. CC was at <10% when he died, so it can be close. I used Reward 3x total (2 on first pet, once on 2nd). I may have gotten a bit lucky on CC's TP moves. Remove paralyze on yourself as soon as you get it because it is very, very strong.

If you need a 3rd CC because your damage isn't high enough, you can kite Sturm by Charm binding him until the Call Beast timer is up again.

paralyze sucks
# Jan 10 2009 at 10:47 AM Rating: Decent
duo'd(sorta) this last night. my bst partner and I both needed it. i was RDM/NIN and he was DRK/BLM(had him /blm in case the invis/pop trick didnt work he could throw down ES>>Sleepga) anyway, invis/pop trick worked, pulled hound up the stairs and we go to town on him. about 15 seconds into fight it uses his paralyze move. dont know if it was the day, weather or whatever else, but that para was nasty and stuck for a LONG TIME. Me not being able to cast or melee, of course my DRK friend quickly took hate and dropped like a rock.(i can usually keep hate when we duo np. not while paralyzed though)so that left me to solo the damn thing from about 80% on. ended the fight with less then 500hp and next to no mp. fight lasted about 10 min after DRK dropped. raised friend and we both got the CS and pants.

Ive read on here that para didnt really bother other ppl too much, but it sure F'd up my plans so just be carefull if you plan to do this w/o much support.

Just helped a LS member with this quest last night. Party was 75DRK/?? 75THF/BLM(who needed this) & 75DRG/WHM(me). The DRK & myself took on the tigers while the THF with his companion fought the hound close to the zone. All in all was an easy fight.

Just soloed this as THF75/NIN37; I tried to sneak before and invisible right after I popped them but it didn't work, so I had to zone with like 300hp left. Then I rest until I had full hp, and when I came back to the room only the hound was still up; I'm guessing the 2 tigers despawned. Anyway I just pulled the hound, it was easy, it missed me a lot (314 evasion skills total, + Haste gears but I never even had to use Utsu: Ichi), paralyzed me twice but it didn't stay on very long. Also did a "Methane Breath" move on me that, I assume, goes through shadows, because it did 400dmg. Other than that, it never hit me. Ended the fight with 750~ HP, and a pair of beast trousers :D

Overall, I would say it's not hard at all providing you let tigers despawn and have enough evasion and shadows.

Confirm BST Duo

Just confirming BST Duo can do this. Went as 75 BST and 60 BST. The most dangerous part is popping the NM (so 60 BST with sub WHM should buff all protections before popping).
Once tigers are charmed and on the NM Sturm, we noted that the 60 BST charmed tiger survived the whole fight. Sturm focused on the charmed tiger of the 75 BST and later on the one jug pet used by the 75 BST. A few Rewards were thrown in to give pets health along the way. Stand off and let the pets do the work.
We did clear the NM area and stairs first of mobs.

did this the night before and it was pretty easy it was me 75rdm/nin my wife 75whm/blm and a friend that needed it 75smn/whm funny thing was he got there ahead of us and he was like you know what i didnt get the key item then we like we didnt either lol then he said he didnt wanna go back so we just went back and got the key item lol. so when we got there we killed all ghost and btw they wont aggro to low hp if they are too weak to you cause i tested it with rdm i coverted and had 80 hp and they didnt aggro ok any ways we go back to rest then some mnk comes in and sqawns 3 skeles we wait for him to finsh then i go in and cast sneak and buff up and start cast invis and click the tomb i start running back and the hound is running in front of me i stop and it attacks me and i get the 2 tigers to so we run back the hound and the 2 tigers are on me so me and wife do our light skill chain on the hound and take it down half life i sleep one of the tigers and wife sleeps the other and we wake on it for a few secs smn uses fenrir's bites like once and i finsh up with a savage blade to finsh it off so to answer anyones questions you dont have to be bst to do this af and a 75rdm/nin can solo or duo with 75 whm or 75 smn can solo it wasnt to hard and me and wife got bst af legs woot ^^

Just did this fight as 62BRD/WHM. Took a 75PLD, 75DRK and 70RDM with me. We cleared the area first. I put up Stoneskin, Blink and Sneak, then started to cast Invis. I clicked on the sarcophagus at about 75% on casting time and spawned the three NMs. Got zero aggro. Ran back a bit, cast Elegy on Sturm, and pulled him back to the top of the stairs. We killed him easily. I went back to the sarcaphagus to find the two tigers had despawned. I got the cutscene and my trousers. That strategy is one I highly recommend if you have a couple high level friends that can help you kill Sturm.

Solo'd this today as 75 rdm/nin.

Typical buffs at start, Prot IV, Shell IV, SS, Phalanx, Haste, Refresh and NI. Casted Invis, at 80% I clicked on the coffin and they popped. I ran back to coffin area entrance and casted Gravity and kited it to the main entrance (zone). Once there, used typical debuffs (Slow, Paralyze, Blind, Dia / Bio).

Pretty long fight with a few hickups. Paralyze can be a real pain at times but it never lasted long enough to change the tide of the fight. Rot Gas didn't make much of a difference in terms of HP/MP loss but it did last half the marathon.

Finished off with a 600 Savage Blade to seal the deal and that was that.

Ran back to the coffin, got CS (which is a bit weird, Galka and monkey) and got the pants.

Goodluck

ps: (Beat it on my 4th try, kept zoning when things got nasty)

Cast tonko at roughly 90%, too early will aggro the tigers, I did that twice.
Sturm has quite a bit of HP.

You need to bring enough Drink Mix for at at least 12 Juices.

First I buffed with Earthen Ward and Aerial Armor, synthed some juices, rested to full, then casted sneak and invis popped as described below. No aggro from NMs so I ran back to the doorway to the room, casted Carby and Dia pulled Sturm.

Sturm went right at me, so I had Carby use Meteorite and ran back to the top of the stairs by the zone. Re-applied buffs as necessary, waited for Carby to die. recasted and followed Carby down. By then the BP was up again so as soon I hit Meteorite again, then ran back to the hallway before the NM room. Repeated for awhile, rebuffed, popped and synthed juices as needed. When MP got low, used Astral Flow to help increase refresh and used Poison Nails to keep hate on Carby.

This fight took about 20-30 min but it was worth it. Dont worry about blood aggro because all the undead in that area are Too Weak.

Good Luck To All That Try It.

[i]68 NIN/WHM

not too hard just did as all have said: sneak up and casted tonko Ni while clicking on the tomb.
When all 3 popped had no agro(as well as no agro from ghosts even without sneak) stepped back casted dia on the hound and pulled to the area where the too weak dog pops....used slow para blind and all the NI damage spells took a while and the only problem I really had was the methane breath.....used regen a few times....was rarely paralyzed....and dont think it ever hit me even when shawdows where down....my main concern was when it used methane gas and rot gas and other things that ignore shawdows that I could get blood agro but the skeles and ghosts were too far as the dog on the landing of the steps did not agro since it was too weak even on low HP.

From all I read I figured I had not A chance in Kupo to win lol......but then again NIN/WHM I can solo things my MNK and BLM both 75 would die on! even subbing NIN can help for this fight but I reccomend whm for regen and paralyna as well as an emergency cure if needed and bring a yag drink or two....NPC healing job a persikos au lait or maybe a few Xpotions for HP..... good luck to all :)

Tried this solo as a THF/NIN today. Didn't go so well. The tigers can be slept by bolts, but the sleep lasts at most 15 sec, so it's pretty useless. Glad I had a friend come to help in case i needed it. Soloing all three mobs is def not an option.

I have no doubt I could have soloed the hound, but I forgot invis tools and couldn't try it. :P

Just soloed this as RDM75/NIN37.

You can pull Sturm (the hound) without having to fight Trombe and Taifun (the tigers), but there's a trick to it.

1) Buffed up (Protect IV, Shell IV, Stoneskin, Utsusemi, Phalanx, Haste, En-whatever, Refresh).
2) Cast sneak on myself.
3) Targetted the sarcophagus, but didn't click it yet.
4) Started casting Tonko: Ni.
5) Clicked the sarcophagus before Tonko: Ni was finished casting. Sturm, Trombe and Taifun spawned just as Tonko: Ni finished casting, so none of them aggroed.
6) Moved out of aggro range and pulled Sturm with Dia II.
7) Used Slow, Paralyze and Blind. Recast them (as well as Dia II) whenever they wore off.

Sturm seemed to have pretty poor accuracy (evasion 216 on my RDM), but hits pretty hard. Not very difficult to kill at all so long as you keep him debuffed, and keep shadows/Stoneskin up (I didn't drop below 700 HP the entire fight, was above 1000 for most of it).

I can confirm this, went in as RDM75/NIN37 myself. Only difference was I used invisible spell instead of Tonko:Ni for the initial pop. Sturm is a total pushover. He did 97 damage to me the entire fight (i forgot to cast stoneskin at the start). Mostly it was casting Ni, the occasional ichi, and only 12 ot so of his attacks even made it to stoneskin. My evasion skill is 220 ( wearing master caster mitts ) but nothing notable about the rest of gear. Good luck to all who try to solo this as well.
Did this with 4 people some NPC's and only one BST

Went in with 67 PLD, 70 RDM, 62 WHM, and 59 BST (me). First go round, I popped them, charmed tiger, sent tiger after other one and figured this would leave us to focus on NM with no problem. WRONG. The other tiger seemed to spam friggin Roar AoE so we were constantly paralyzed and eventually got owned with maybe a 1/4 of the NM's life taken off if we were lucky. The NM is no joke, he's tough as hell.

Round 2. Tried a new strat I thought up. First off 2 people popped their NPC's for some extra help, just in case. This time cleared room, WHM and PLD waited by zone (which isn't far), me and RDM go in to pop. I charm one tiger, send it at NM. RDM Sleeps other tiger. We sneak up and head back to zone. I put the slept tiger on scan so I could tell RDM when it woke up. When it did and ran to our camp at zone, RDM kept tiger slept until NM killed other one.

Once charmed tiger was dead, I charmed other one. Figured NM would come to our camp but got half way and decided it didn't want any part of us for some reason so we had to sneak up and head to the spawn room. At this point it was a fairly long fight, but not nearly as tough as the first. NPC's definitely helped (especially the PLD's since it casted Viruna and paralyna better than the WHM in the group did) but I wouldn't say they won it for us, just made it easier. Not having the other two tigers to deal with made things much easier.

So my advice if you don't have two beasts in the group to each charm a tiger and can only charm one, make sure you at least have a sleeper that can keep the other one asleep and don't engage the NM until the NM has finished off the first tiger.

This can be done as a bst duo I am a 68bst and duoed with a 75 bst last night. Just sneak up trigger NM. Run out of ghost room charm the tigers. Sic tigers on Hound let em get hate cast stoneskin and blink and hack away. Might want to bring poison potion encase the SOB wants to use sleepga. We kited hime to entrance for a safer fight.

I didnt even read the thread to see if it was possible, but having just done this tonight with an alliance from my LS...we had 2 BSTs needing the fight. But you only have to fight them once and all BSTs can get the cutscene. We were prepped for a second fight just in case, but this can be easily done for a ton of BSTs at once, so long as they are all there in the zone for the fight, and have the key item.

Just did this last night with 4 people. It was 73RDM (me),73THF/NIN (tanked), 73DRK, and a 65 THF. The quest was for me and the 65THF. He popped the mobs and I ES'd sleepga the 2 tigers while they fought the hound. And basically I just slept tigers if they woke up until the hound was dead. Only thing that sucks is the paralyse AoE that the hound does...but other than that it was pretty easy. Now gotta get my bst to 60 so I can wear the trousers :D

Just soloed this as a 75NIN/37BST (my BST is actually lvl 60). So I get to the spot, kill off the hound in the hallway so it doesn't aggro me if I happen to fall into yellow hp. The ghosts in the room checked Too Weak so I just left them in there. Popped the tomb, charmed one of the tigers and turned it against the other, while I took on the hound. Basically the thing missed me about 90% of the time, so it was no problem. After my tiger died I charmed the other one, and happened to get hit by the hound for 298 dmg critical, so I'm assuming it hits pretty hard. I turn the other tiger on the hound and finish it off for the win and a brand new pair of Beast Trousers >=)

BST AF1-5
# Oct 20 2004 at 7:22 AM Rating: Excellent
Hey guys,
Thought i would add my 2 gil as i did this just last night:
Many people get confused about how to get to Eldieme Necropolis from Beaucedine Glacier. The <pos> is at H-11. You must zone to Batallia Downs then fall down the first cliff straight ahead of you and then go into the first Eldieme Necropolis zone you come to (around F-5).

BTW i got my AF Trousers last night. Party consisted of:
75PLD, 71 BST, 70RNG, 69BLM, 68WHM, 60BST, 59BST, 59BST and 58BST (me). Fight went smooth. The PLD HP went into red though which worried me lol. Both tigersthat spawned were charmed and disappeared after hound was defeated. Be aware though that you can get cursed by the Ghosts whilst trying to clear the room before spawning the NM so have someone that can remove this.

Also my BCNM party last night made over 1.5mil and we broke the Record twice ^^ So all in all a very good night.

Special thanks goes to Topcat for making last night AF run a success and also to Payrock for a Fab BCNM run :-)
