Contents [hide]

General Information

    • Respawn time is approximately 21 to 24 hours after its last Time of Death.

  • Will periodically shift into different "stances", denoted by the bats' position arrangement.

    • In its initial, V-shaped stance, Tres Duendes behaves like a normal "Triple Bats" type mob.

    • In its vertical alignment stance, Tres Duendes gains a 100% Triple Attack rate per attack round.

    • In its horizontal alignment stance, Tres Duendes' attack speed decreases, but its attack power increases.

  • Susceptible to Bind, Gravity, and Lullaby.

Tres Duendes' Special Attacks

  • Jet Stream - Single target three-hit physical damage.

  • Sonic Boom - AoE Attack Down effect (Circle of effect originates from mob).

  • Slipstream - AoE Accuracy Down effect (Circle of effect originates from mob).

  • Turbulence - AoE Wind based magic damage (Circle of effect originates from mob).

  • Train Fall - Single target Drain effect.

    • Is only capable of performing Train Fall in its vertical alignment stance.

  • Knife Edge Circle - Frontal cone AoE physical damage with additional Stun and Poison effects.

    • Is only capable of performing Knife Edge Circle in its horizontal alignment stance.

Historical Information

A duende is a fairy- or goblin-like mythological creature of Spain, Portugal, and Spanish-speaking areas of America, though analogues of the duende appear in Danish, French, Irish, Welsh, Swedish, and Scottish folklore as well.

In Hispanic folklore of Central America and the American Southwest, Duendes are known as gnome like creatures who live inside the walls of homes, especially in the bedroom walls of young children. They attempt to clip the toenails of unkempt children, often leading to the mistaken removal of entire toes. They also to be known for taking items from young children.

In Spanish, the word Tres means the number three.

As such, Tres Duendes would mean Three Fairies or Three Goblins

i managed to solo this nm as bst/whm. just 2 hour an it oil slick, (there is one in a tunnel off of the stego room close to the room where tres spawns). There are two tunnels leading into the room where the nm is, one with a derimite and one with a derimite and a fomor monk. I use the one with just a derimite because bst 2-hour only works for 30 min.

first have your slime kill the derimite for tp, then rest up and have your slime attack the blm pet and pull it into the hallway. have the slime focus on the blm and use sic to start off the fight. do anything you can to kill the blm. if you have to, heal your pet with pet food to keep it alive until the blm dies. if your lucky the blm will die before your slime. Unless your incredibly lucky your slime will be too far gone to take on tres after the blm dies so cast sneak on yourself and use Leave. since you had your slime attack the blm instead of tres at the start, tres will not attack you.

After that it's just a matter of waiting for your 2 hour to come back. Tres will not spawn another pet so when Familiar is ready get another IT or vt slime and just have at it. This fight can last awhile and pet food is a must, i usually go through most of a stack of zetas before the nm dies. but once the blm is dead the fight is easy.

Killed this and the blm it spawns with as nin/war nin/dnc and whm/nin.
I solo tanked tres as nin/dnc while my friends killed the blm.
I did notice at one stage tres went off to hit the other nin even though he should not have had any hate at all on tres.
Once the blm was dead it was pretty easy to kill tres.
No drop at all.

I have killed it 5 times now and its only dropped items twice. Dagger and claws one time and katana and claws the other.

Edit*
Killed it afew more times now, full drops one time and dagger/katana another.
Yet to see only 1 item drop.

A little background...
# Sep 19 2007 at 10:30 AM Rating: Decent
I just thought I'd put this up to give some background and maybe a little insight. The Tres Duendes comes from an old Grimm Brother's story. There are three very short tails about elves. The first is "The Elves and the Shoemaker." The third part, however, tells of the elves replacing a child with a changeling. The changeling is described as having a large head, like a taru. Seeing as how the elves appear to swap the child for a changeling, it makes since that this spawn comes from the BLM fomor being left alone. It also explains why the bats have a pet, instead of the other way around.

I got some info from a few places, but this is a good link to the story (as translated from Spanish):
http://www.grimmstories.com/language.php?grimm=039&l=en&r=es

Happy hunting.

it's sort of worth it. Its worth in terms of you can now deal slashing dmg is better than the actual application. The only time I pull these out is for BCNM40 royal jelly, (in which they are still of limited use), the occasional slime mob, or against a hound. Really, 95% of the time you'll be using your normal H2H weapons, but as I said earlier, the potential is nice, plus you'll be a definite minority that owns these on your server.
Worth it?

This area is actually part of the CoP expansion and has no correlation with Treasure of Aht Urgan. In order to get to this zone, you must be on CoP Mission 2-3, which you can ultimately get to after you beat the 3 Promyvions.

Tres Duendes and Duendes Amoroso pop at the same time next to each other, their PH is the Fomor Black Mage in the room. In order to pop, the Fomor Black Mage must not be killed for 21-24 hours.

I've camped this guy for a week straight, his pop times were like this:

spawn 1: Spotted Tres Duendes without Duendes Amoroso and zone was empty...called bst duo and we killed it, dropped claws.

spawn 2: about 26 hours later after killing mahisha we spot tres on widescan floating around, zone empty. Kill, claws again.

spawn 3: 23 hours 20 minutes later tres pops with fomor, drops everything.

spawn 4: 23 hours 50 minutes later tres pops with fomor, drops nothing.

spawn 5: 22 hours 30 minutes later tres pops with fomor, drops everything.

2 BST with VT/IT Oil Spills can duo this pretty easily, I would read up on his TP moves on ffxiclopedia before you attempt this though.

Everything after spawn 1 our setup was like this: BST/THF - BST/WHM

Just killed this with my LS and a pick up who needed COP 2-3... setup was...

NINx4
SMN
WHM
DRG
THF(me)
and RDM

SMN pulls pet away from us and tried to kite we got Tres down to 50% before she died and the pet came back to us after that we each fell and we were down to 1 NIN, myself, RDM who had to go afk, and DRG before we finished off tres. I lotted on dagger quickly since they said I could have the dagger before I died to the pet. The katana also dropped but the ones who could use didn't get to lot on it and the one guy not in our LS got the drop. He went AFK shortly after he died and remained in party while he went to work. Only one that actually lived was the RDM that went afk before tres went down. Oh well, atleast we beat him, and I got the chiro dagger. Really wanted the claws for PUP and MNK but I'll be happy with this. Maybe we'll get those tomorrow. GL guys.

Good 'ol Cloudy was having some fun today on Diabolos, and decided to subligar farm. RNG said Tres was on the radar, so we made the trek out. Took out the pet w/ it casting only 1 StonegaII. The other NIN died tanking him from the AoE poison, and I ended up solo-tanking Tres. It's not so bad, just make sure the healers have some sort of refresh w/ them. Blind, Para, and slow him as well.

Party set-up: MNK, NIN, NIN, WHM, DRK, RNG, BLM.

Got all 3 drops.

Well...I was bored, and no one would offer help to kill Tres Duendes. So I figured I'd try to solo for fun knowing I'd die...well I did die...about 4 times give or take...but Tres died also...Basically this is what I did:
Charmed a Gloop (Yes a Gloop the "Decent Challenge" ones)
Ran to Tres' spawn location
When at Tres I used my Powder boots then cast silence on Tres' Amoroso (Tres Duenes' pet Taru) Then I had my Gloop fight the Pet taru fomor. while I ran Tres to zone (I had to cast silence on him a total of two times, second time was because I lost hate.) By the time my gloop killed the Taru I was at where the Oil Spills were. So I released my Gloop and Charmed an Oil spill (Luckily I got it first try) Then from here on it was pretty easy. Had Oil Spill fight Tres (I almost died while the Oil Spill took hate) Once oil spill had Hate I rested and let the two fight
When my oil spill got to about 20% HP I used "Heel " and ran to Zone near the Gloops. So once my Oil spill died all my Bat links would go away >_> by the time I got to the Gloops. Tres was about 70% Hp kinda alot for just gloops to take care of but with time, they killed Tres. Also the Pugs there work great too. If you do this dont melee Tres. Youll get too much hate and during a pet switch youll likely die (did that twice) I died for verious reasons also...faled charms so on...but I finally killed him and here are some pics...Happy hunting ^^

Well the last week I've been running around in Phomiuna with a friend of mine duoing almost everything as BST/NINs. One night I saw this guy on widescan, so I tell my friend to get an Oil spill as well as getting one myself. once we got to tunnel I ran in the room along the right wall and sent pets after bats and my friend followed and sent his pet to the blm fomor. So it went as follows: one Oil spill tanked bats. My friend, his pet, and myself melee'd the blm fomor. We killed the fomor within 2 minuted easily. Then we focused entirely on the Bat, and came to realize he has a annoying aoe that does 200+ occasionally called "Turbulence" so after a couple of those AoEs, me and my friend went and rested in the tunnel while our pets continued to beat the crap out of Tres Duendes. So to end this tale, we killed this nm however none of the 3 rare/ex items dropped. Happy hunting.

Killed him again, and came up with an idea behind his spawn rate. I think hes strictly based on time. I think that if you dont kill the BLM Fomor for a particiular amount of time, I think that the BLM Fomor in that room will despawn and Tres Duendes will spawn in his place. But I think he'll still spawn even if you do kill the BLM Fomor, he may just spawn strictly after a certain amount of time. Ill look into this a lil' more to gather more information to share will Alla.

P.S. got the drop Vampyric Claws, they went to a friend of mine. Congratulations, Legault.

Well I feel pretty weak now since everyone has been saying how easy this NM is...

We had about 10 members, 3 NINs, some DD's and a couple WHMs and this NM was very rough. Its pet was a little taru that was nuking the hell out of us because no one would help me and another guy kill it. We did kill it, and got the Katana. (The WHM who let me and another member die after the fight from poison got the drop ><;)

We also fought a party of 4 fomors and won (barely) with our 10...whether that is normal or not I don't know because this was my first time subligar hunting. I wouldn't go into this fight expecting it to be super easy though.

If you get lucky and the blm pet is not with him, yes you can solo him with a 2hr'd slick. Unfortunitely, I've only seen him up once without his pet, not sure if it was a glitch, or someone else wiped trying to take them both out. When I saw him up and not his pet, I went after him and killed him without even getting in the fight. It was a long fight though, I fed right after I killed the diremite in the hallway, sent oil after tres, pulled back to hallway, fed again when timer was up, and was able to feed a 3rd time before he finally died.

Also, duo him and his pet is fairly easy, simply put the oil slicks on the blm, and pull tres down out of -ga range. The blm will go down fast with 2 slicks beating on him, once blm dead put oil's on tres and let them take him, they'll grab hate fast. Move out of aoe range and rest up. The hardest part of this process is staying alive long enough to have your pets destroy the blm. Feed as often as possible. I even trio'd him and blm once, was rediculously fast.

As far as the mite in the hallway, I always kill them to get tp for my pet, then feed full before going again. It gives a nice opening hate grabber if you can start the fight with a tp move and not worry about hitting anything else.
RE: Oil Spill

lol... I tried that just now as 40 BST. I 'Familiar'ed a nearby VT Oil Spill and sent it after the bats and pulled the NM back to the tunnel.

The Tres Duendes bats were getting intimidated left and right and were only hitting the Oil Spill for about 12-18 dmg. However, running not too far behind, Duendes' Amoroso annoying little BLM came up and started nuking the crap out of my pet. So the Oil Spill ended up meleeing the fomor more than the bats.

I looked at the little BLM's HP and it was dropping rather quick so I sent it after the fomor and started helping melee it. The fomor is pretty weak, but not once did his casting get interrupted so he went on to continue nuking my poor ooze with Fire II, Water II, and Blizzard II.

I had the taru @ about 10%HP then he finished off my Oil Spill even after I fed it a Zeta snack with a Stonega II, which hurt like hell.

Then, I was standing there, petless, and the BLM hit me for about 85 dmg, then the bats hit me for an astounding 240 dmg... not even a critical hit. Yeah, those bats hit -hard- I'm not sure if it was all of a sudden night time (like Upiyi, since it's a red bat too) or what, because it sure as hell wasn't hitting my pet anywhere near that hard.

So I died, the end. Maybe next time I try (and probably fail), I'll focus on killing the fomor ASAP, maybe could be duo'd by 2 bsts with 'familiar'ed Oil Spills considering how weak the bats hit the oils.

P.S. I couldn't Sic at all since there was an IT Diremite standing on top of us the whole time, 1 Fluid Spread would have ended the fight twice as fast. :(

Would a Rdm/nin be able to solo it? I saw that the bats are sleepable and could start out chainspell nuke on the pet while the bats are asleep. Then have potions icarus wing and whatever else to melee/nuke the bats.

Just wondering, seems like it would be fun if it was possible.

We have had weekly sub runs in my Clan/LS for a few weeks now (not sure how much longer we will be doing it though, the people who have been showing are getting all their subs :-) and we have now added this guy to our rotation (since we need the single MNK that spawns near him). Anyway, I just wanted to share some general comments on him.

  • First, his BLM pet is seriously weak, but has some horrible AoE spells. I'd recommend killing the BLM first just to get him out of the way. He will go down pretty quickly.
  • The bats themselves seem to start out missing a lot and not doing much damage when they hit. However, once the BLM dies, they get much meaner. This is another reason I suggest just killing the BLM to get him out of the way, because while the BLM is alive you can safely ignore the bats.
  • There is a solo Fomor MNK in the hall near these bats. I suggest fighting them in the hall because it's safer, but be sure to clear the Fomor MNK and fight them between the MNK spawns.
  • During the course of the battle with the bats, they tend to get stronger and stronger. Their attacks get meaner and meaner. Also, they have these nasty EVA boost and ACC down moves that they will do. All told, the battle can be lengthy, so be sure you have enough main and backup healing to stay alive for the fight.
  • Ultimately, neither of them are very hard if you keep your wits about you. I bet a well balanced party of 4 or 5 could do it if everyone knew their job. That being said, I'd suggest a minimum of 6 or 7 your first time fighting them simply because you will likely be surprised by how long it can take to kill the bats once they start spamming EVA boost and ACC down :-)
  • Joke

lol this guys is a joke. ive killed him 4 times with only 4 ppl. whm nin(me) mnk rng(went as rdm once) was our setup every time. Mnk 2hrs the blm pet and rng just shoots the pet while i tank the bats. With slow and paralyze its uber easy to tank tres. He has like triple attack and an attack where all 3 bats attack in 1 attack for uber dmg. After both of these there is a huge wait before his next attack so its really easy to even get Ichi off. Fight takes a while w/ not that much dmg but its still easy. Only move that really sucks that it has is like Knife Edge Blade or something like that. It stuns you for about 5 seconds and gives you a 20hp/tick poison affect. It goes through shadows too. Make sure you have someone with poisona. We've gotten 2 vamparic claws and 1 katana(which someone outlotted me for /cry) and we goin again like every day till we all get the items that we want.
FYI: We only got drops when we had someone in pt with TH.

we killed this NM duo last night while hunting for subligaria.
party set up was RDM(me), NIN,SAM,WHM,NIN and DRG.
RDM gravity on bats, while NIN vokes and kites it around. WHM silences Taru BLM...rest of the party attacks at pulverizes BLM pet. The bats take a long time to kill...so have RDM or BLM ES sleep it to get breaks in between to heal and regain MP. fight went ok we got into yellow HP never to red...we didn't get any drops >.<

PS...make sure you clear the room of any fomors 1st...there is a party of fomors so i suggest a some one take it for the team and kite the other fomors while you take out at least one of the fomors in part...doing so makes other fomor members dissappear..hope this help^^

This guy is no joke but with two good bsts it is possible. First off get a Gloop from the first map cause no other pets further in and Gloop only type of pet that will take this kind of dammage (Call beast pets will not last). Fatt(me) and Rangua (asura server)went into room (filled with all sorts of fomors) and pulled this guy and his blm fomor pet out into hall using a gloop pet. Let one Gloop tank the bats while both bst's and one gloop take out blm. After blm dead what ever gloop has most HP let fight the NM bats, the other "leave" and let it regan its HP make sure you have sneak up. When HP is full or other pet almost dead the bst with out a pet charms the now full HP gloop and sends it to fight bats. Now the other BST uses "leave" on the close to dead Gloop so he can regan HP. Switch back and forth between the two pets till bats are dead. The only trouble you can run into here is that the Slime type mobs can resist charm alot sometimes so start trying to charm when your tanking pet is about 50%. Also these pets use an AOE attack during "sic" called fluid spread that will get the spider that spawns in this hall involved so only use sic right before you use leave during the pet switch. Other than that stay out of the way cause this bat has a nasty aoe and your not as tough as a Gloop so just heal in between pet switching, you will need MP and HP for the failed charms. These bats have a pretty high regan so fight will take a while but slow and steady is a sure win. Ours drops included the Chiroptera dagger and Vampiric Claws no Niokiyotsuna.

I fought this with 9 people while doing a jse sub run. Me and another member bashed the annoying taru pet around while the others kept the bat busy.

Sometime durning the fight, and AoE was used and a diremite aggroed. Thankfully we had a bard so it was kept slept. (once the bat went down the mite was a pushover. So much so that It may of been better just to kill it)

We got the dagger and the katana.
No deaths. But the fight was harder then anticipated.

WHM WHM SAM/RNG THF WAR BLM BRD

THF pulled easy because he didn't have Fomor hate. Used Flee to outrun the stupid lil Taru's Sleepga. ES+Sleep the bats, ES+Silence the Taru. Kill taru fast, then focus on the bats.

Now because we had no idea what it did, the bat then killed us... it had maybe 1% life left =/ But we got up then killed it ^^b

    Drops: All 3

We killed this NM the other night. We had a party of PLD, RNG, THF, BRD, WHM, BLM. It was a fun fight. Killed the fomor first then killed the bats. The fomor got off some nasty aga spell before it died. The PLD said the bats didn't hit very hard, but its evasion is a pain in the butt, especially coupled with that AoE accuracy down.

It dropped all three weapons. :)
