Sabotender Bailarina Picture

Contents [hide]

General Information

  • Has an auto-Regen effect during the daytime that cannot be dispelled. Has no auto-Regen effect during the night.

  • Sabotender Bailarina's kick attacks are significantly stronger than its punch attacks.

  • From 100% to roughly 40% of its health, Sabotender Bailarina will only perform one TP move whenever it obtains 100% TP. Between 40% and 20%, it will perform two TP moves instead of one, and from 20% down to its death, it will perform three TP moves.

Sabotender Bailarina's Special Attacks

  • Photosynthesis - Self target Regen effect (Effect can be dispelled).

    • Sabotender Bailarina is only able to perform Photosynthesis during the daytime.

  • 1000 Needles - AoE physical damage.

    • Damage is equal to one thousand divided by the number of targets in range of the attack (i.e. Five targets in range of 1000 Needles will take 200 damage each)

Historical Information

Bailarina is the Spanish word for a female dancer of classical dances.

Sabotender is a portmanteau of the words saboten, which means "cactus" in Japanese, and pretender.

BST/NIN x 3
RDM/BST x2
SMN/WHM x1
BRD/WHM x1

We foolishly did this at night, but wasn't a big deal. Both RDMs charmed a local pet, the BSTs fed it jugs. The SMN just dropped pacts on it. All of us stayed in range at all times, and a couple of us had our NPCs out. I was the bard, and just kept ballad up, dragged in new pets for the RDMs, and toward the end spammed curaga on my party. All in all it was a piece of cake even with our bad time choice. The RDMs kept regen 2 and refresh up, and the BSTs occasionally meleed it. At the very end everyone went melee and we beat it down.

If you do this during the day it is much easier because half the WS it uses are regens that are next to impossible to remove, but don't matter as much as the damage of 1000 needles.

This mob appears to have about 30,000 HP as I've seen black mages 1400+ damage nukes take about 4% of it's full hp. Has very strong kick attacks, did about 430 damage to a 68 lvl monk.

This is definitely duoable by 2 RDM/NINs (isnt everything?) with very little difficulty, this is how I got my Dune Boots. It used 1000 needles maybe 3 or 4 times during whole fight, not sure about the other TP move but I didn't see it use much TP moves at all. But of course, no one melee'd it. But I'm still a bit skeptical about if this can be soloed or not. Both of the RDMs were well geared and merited but the mob still managed to get through their protections quite fast and this really can't be kited either unless you have someone take care of the adds that spawn in the tunnel, and then it would not count as soloing.

Also DoTs seem to wear away quite fast, so DoT > zone soloing tactic might not be viable on this one.

SCH vs. Bailarina

Done this fight about 4-5 times over the years. SCH makes it a joke. Stoneskin-aga the melees, and its just a TP burn.

Camped this NM for not quite 2 hrs and he popped. I saw no 4th cactuar PH, just the 1 before the NM room and the 2 after.

Had WHM/SMN, NIN/DNC, NIN/WAR, BLU/NIN, RDM/BLM AND BRD/WHM. BRD kept ballad and march and helped curaga, WHM hasted and curaga'd and RDM healed and also nuked and spammed stun w/ the BLU once the NM began spamming 1k needles. 1k needles did between 120ish and 160ish dmg to us. It was a pretty easy fight but fun nonetheless. Oh, having NIN as /DNC really helped keep HP up...

This NM is not 21-24 spawn. Saw it twice in one day: tod of 3pm central and and next spawn at 10pm. It is a lottery pop just kill all sabotenders and it'll pop sooner or later.

Took 4 attempts to kill it. Started w/ 2 75Rdms, 1 75Mnk/nin, and 1 75Bst(me). Tried kiting and nuking/chi blasting then zoning, I would sic a pet on it when they zoned and pull it away. Got it down to 35% that way but it didn't work out. Tried to staight dot zone it, didn't work. 3rd attempt mnk tanked it...not enough curing didn't work. After that a Smn and Blm show up to help out. On 4th attempt mnk tanked, bst dd +pet(what I could anyway lol), smn dmg bping, blm nuke and zoning, and rdms cure bombing, enfeebling, and nuking. No one was in any danger the whole time except for me but just because of small mp pool, mnk was priority cure. 1000 needles spread well between pets and npcs + 6 ppl. Anyway got my boots and thank you to everyone that helped me with this.

Triod with nin/thf, thf/nin (me) whm/smn. Whm kept carby out most of the time to eath 1000 needles. Whne whm would run out of mp, we'd turn and back tank. Missed my thf a LOT with eva gear on - easily held it with just ni while the whm healed up. Had to back tank more below 20% obviously, but overall was a relatively smooth fight. Took about 25 minutes. Nin had good sky/hnm gear, whm was very pro, I have good thf AH or ToAU gear (no sky or sea stuff) and full thf merits

Pop time, party set up
# May 01 2008 at 1:12 PM Rating: Good
This NMs window opens up 21-24 hours of its death, camped it twice and both times it pop almost at the 24 hour mark. I remember reading about that when a forth cactuar pops in either the hallway, the room, or near zone, that that is the place holder. A forth cactuar never popped the whole 2-3 days i was there. I did notice that both times i watched him pop it was after we killed a cactuar that popped in the little room with 2 ants and a spider. So safe to say that once the window opens and a cactuar pops in that little room, that is your place holder. (This is all based off my experience).
The first fight set-up was MNK/NIN x2 SCH and RDM. Both MNKs full boost and chi blast pull in MND gear. Which gave them good hate at the start. The SCH spammed Stoneskinga to eat 1000 needles. Stoneskin would eat 250 damage total, so SCH is so nice to have for this fight. Both MNKs 2hr almost at the start but this thing has crazy countering skill and loads of HP so it hurt us more than him. We got it to 5% and wiped :(
We RR and got a BRD and another RDM to come. With haste from the BRD and RDM both MNKs were non-stop attacking was crazy. But with Stoneskinga from the SCH and 2 RDMs and a BRD was a very easy fight, hate bounce back and forth with the MNK/NINs we hardly took damage. Fight during the day so it has a chance of using 2 different TP moves, at night it only uses 1000 needles, and not more than 2 melee is best. Hope this helps out! I got Dune Boots! :)
Geez.

Ok just killed this nm 2 times in 2 days. The 2nd fight was surprisingly harder even though we had more ppl.

1st fight.
75 Nin, 75 smn, 75 war, 70 mnk (me), 70 whm
This fight lasted nearly an entire game day... Got a little hairy at times but we pulled it off in the end. War the only fatality

2nd fight.
75 nin, 75 Drg, 75 War, 75 Brd, 70 Mnk, 70 Whm, 64 Whm
This fight was faster,, thank goodness.. Except im assuming the extra DD was feeding the mob too much tp. Right around 20% the nm started spamming 1000 needles. And i mean SPAMMING. Drg dropped 1st. War was 2nd. Mnk 3rd. 1st Whm 2hr'd before the war dropped and the 2nd 2 hr'd attempting to do it before the mnk went down but didn't work. All in all we won the whm's and brd moved in to take some of the needle dmg off of the Nin. Had to do it because noone had mp to keep the nin healed. Finally won all of us in the red.

My personal opinion on this nm, Less is better. We only had 1 more DD the 2nd time around but we almost lost. More ppl = less needle dmg, but also ='s a higher spam rate. I seriously belive if we woulda had just the whm with no extra dd we would have been an easier fight. 3 75 dd and at least 2 healers is probably ideal.
Just my opinion. GL on your fights. I'm gonna go play with my new boots ^^ !!

Just fought this mob, killed one set of PH's, then went and kill Proconsul for fun. Came back and the Bailarina was up. Started calling LS members and about an hour later we gathered them all. Setup ended up being...

75 DRK (me)
75 DRG (Drai)
75 PLD (Tigurius)
75 BLM (Sikes)
75 BRD (Amnell)
75 SMN (Buubuu)
75 MNK (Kyosuke)
61 SMN (Warwizard)
75 WHM (Banis)
x3 NPC's

At about 90% health Kyosuke used 100 fists and tanked it until about 50%. He had good mage support and at the same time was keeping shadows up pretty well and countering some. Tigurius got hate back by mainly curing ppl from 1000 needles. At the end of the fight it just spammed 1000 needles... one screen of text that didn't have any chat filters on shows three different 1k needles going off.

In the end it used 1k needles 24 times. I pulled hate a few times with Guillotine but for the most part WSes were doing crap. SMN BP's and BLM's spells were owning it though. Sikes ended it with a Freeze II for ~1700 dmg.

Few tips I have...

Get a tactics pearl so you can keep calling npc's back when they die. Also have melee's stand to the side or behind the NM b/c it counters like mad. SMN's are nice here b/c the pet can spread out some of the 1k Needle damage. We had Amnell dual box Warwizard just for the extra damage reduction. Finally, when it gets down to ~30%, you need to zerk it. 14 of the 24 1k Needles it did took place from 30% and below.

Anyway, congratulations to Amnell on Asura for the new Dune Boots... now ding 70!

A MNK friend has been waiting 1 year + for these boots. He was up and we figured we would give it a try 75 RDM/NIN X2 BLU/NIN. 75 DRG/SAM and 69 DRK/?. Drk and drg went down mid fight and me and the blu's trio'd from about 80%. Was very fun
Bailarina is not Bailarin
# Jun 05 2007 at 6:03 PM Rating: Decent
So funny how many ppl think they duoed/soloed this guy. Bailarina's strenght has no comparison with the other crappy cactuar named Bailarin.

- Sabotender Bailarin: Drop mainly Bailathorn x ? (ammo nin with 3 acc)
- Sabotender Bailarina: Drop mainly 100% Dune Boots

If those who were sure to soloe/duo Bailarina (only skilled rdm/nin can solo it like Avesta), then go kill him again, the one in the room close to Proconsul NM, not the one which pop in the ??? antican tag room. I can tell, u'll bit the dust within a few sec against Bailarina.
I needed those Dunes Boots for my mnk 75 so i managed to grab 5 people 75:

war/nin 75
nin/war 75 (tank with full eva set)
whm/blm 70
thf/nin 75
rdm/whm 75 (me)

We came to the spot and began to fight; debuff but we lost closely the fight due to the spam of 1k needle(9% HP left). Reraised, rest then called two others ls members for help (blm and another rdm 75). With 7 ppl after, the second fight was by far more easier (1k shared didnt break 150+). Ended him during daytime (used a lot of Photosyntesis) and got my pair of Dune Boots. Good luck for everyone who need those boots.

trying to nab an antican tag a lvl 60 war/nin and i 73bst/nin decided to give him a go. calling my npc and CC we drag this nm to the zone and start pounding on his prickly ***. 3 1000 needles later and with only 538 HP ( pld @ 157HP ) we get the drop. two bailathorn ( 1 each ) wasn't too shabby for a luck claim.

I think you fought the Bailarin, not the Bailarina. Dune Boots are 100% drop off this guy and Bailarin's main drop is the Bailathron (seems to drop enough for all party members). Bailarina spams 1000 needles near death, you cannot duo her/him.

just killed these with 9ppl little to no effort, but camping was a pain. Day1 , eight hour of camping. Poped after 4hr i arrive the rest i try to get ppl in ls to fight it but no luck. So log off. Day 2 NM was gone(someone must have kill it), after 4hr pop ,waited 1hr for helpers to get here ... kill ... drop. So yeah is it possible it's 4hr pop? Well however am pretty sure if you kill 3-4PH(which are the cautuar that spawn in the small room) then 4th or 5th the NM. They also seem to respawn different everytime, sometime 20min , sometime 30min. but when PH respawn interval was at 10min you know the next ones gonna be NM. At least that's what it seems to me.

Both screenshots are from red mages. More than likley they just kited/dot on it. I personally haven't done any fights like this but I have know Charybdis to be solo'ed using this method by rdm. I would say that if a good rdm/nin can solo Charybdis then this guy should be cake. I have read though that this guy regens HP which makes the solo story a little less believable. They do seem tough to get though. Good luck to whoever needs these.

Well this NM is quite a funny little thing. I don't believe there needs to be 4 cactuar for it to spawn, in fact when mine spawned i was killing the 3 cactuar in the tunnels, not a 4th cactuar in sight. He always spawns in the middle room though i believe.

After waiting about a hour for some of LS to show up and assist we took him down with little effort. During day made it easier. Set up war/nin,pld/rdm,whm/smn,smn/whm,mnk/nin,thf/nin,whm/blm and blm/whm.

The hardest bit was getting the people to help and killing the placeholders. As PLD/RDM it can be a challenge if it pops 3 1000 needles i would be lucky to still be alive.
Don't need that many

Trioable by NIN BRD and a Mage if you are good. After 1000 needles NIN turns around while everyone heals and rests up. We did w/ NIN BRD MNK/WHM and nearly had it but got bad agro from a spider and it decided to 1000 needles at the worst time. Will use 1000needles or Photosynthesis 2x in a row from 30ish%-10ish% and 3x in a row till death so this is a problem. This can be dealt with 3 people and stoneskin/phalanx but you just need to be catious/good. Fun fight thought, definately want to try again.

Edit: Win with BLM BRD MNK NIN. Easy win too but fun NM longer fight due to his HP

I just killed this guy last night. I have to say he has a ton of HP. I casted 3 or 4 spells that did 1100+ damage to him and he just kept coming at us. I also had 14 ppl so the 1000 needles was not too bad. But just keep in mind this has tons of HP when hunting this thing.

Good luck on Dune boots they rock!

Dune Boots NM Spawn....
# Sep 18 2006 at 3:16 AM Rating: Decent
I can't give an exact time on how often this NM spawn but I can tell you what to look for when you go to camp for this guy. First off when his window is not open there are only 3 cactars that will spawn through the hallway. I know this because I have been there for the past week hanging out looking for him to spawn. When there is a 4th cactar in the area then you have the place holder.
The place holder will be the one closest to the small room in the middle of the hallway.
To get to where the NM spawn enter Quicksand Caves from G-6 in Western Altep desert. Then the first pressure door that you run into right there by the zone is the door. For a side not make sure you have at least 2 people so you can enter. Then down that hall is a big room with another pressure door. Once you are on the other side of door 2 then that is the path where you will be searching for the NM and his place holder. The first path before the small room in the middle of the hall should only have 1 cactar. Then the hall after the small room will have 2 cactars that spawn. The place holder will spawn right in the small middle room that also has a spider and 2 ants. The safest place to fight the NM is by the zone at the end of the hall.

Oh I got my boot sunday night, WOOTGA!

Jobs were:

74 SAM
75 WAR
75 DRK
75 PLD
75 WHM
75 RDM
75 BLM

Now I am a very happy monk.

you probably killed sabotender bailarin ( http://ffxi.cannotlinkto/mobdb/1643 ), who *never* drops dune boots, much less 100%. sabotender bailarina (who is significantly harder) *always* drops dune boots.

if you read other posts on this page, you'll see a lot of people had the same problem. the two NMs don't pop close to each other...

Dune Boots with 5 People

My group of friends just took this NM down with 5 people, which I thought was a pretty nice accomplishment. Jobs were:

NIN/WAR
RDM/BLM
WHM/SMN (me)
MNK/WAR
MNK/NIN

All 75. We had been hunting this NM for quite some time after other people have told us that it was rarely camped. (Apparently every LS on the server decided to go for it at the same time.)
First run at it was a little sloppy and we ended up dying because the MNK's pulled too much hate and the NIN couldn't get it back before the healers had to dump a lot of MP on them. We both ran out of MP and we ended up wiping. We managed to get it down to 12%.

After resting weakness we came up with a couple ideas to mitigate damage and MP use. I brought Carby out to soak up some of the damage from 1000 Needles, and the Monks would take turns zoning to clear hate. It just happened to be daytime too when we pulled for the second time.
Second run goes much better. Level 37 Carby can soak a LOT of damage and has regen, which I totally didn't notice before. Zoning to clear hate helped the NIN hold hate much better, and since it was daytime the NM didn't spam 1000 needles as much because it was also doing Photosynthesis. Sometimes it would do that twice in a row, and we had more than enough damage to overcome the regen. It took a while but we eventually killed it with no deaths, and got our first pair of dune boots! Two more pairs to go!

Hints for small groups:
If you can get away with it, sub a pet job to take away some damage, preferably a fully leveled pet job.
Fight during the day. The lack of 1000 needles spam really helped us out. That's not to say we didn't get a few nasty times where it spammed it three times in a row, but it really seemed to help as compared to the first time.
Heavy damage dealers should zone to reset hate when they pull it, especially those who take a lot of damage when hit. Not sure if this would be needed for PLD tank.
Slow is very important. Stacking as much slow on it as possible makes it attack very very slowly. Considering it's a monk mob with multiple attacks, this helps quite a bit.

Good luck everyone who tries this with a small group. It was really fun and an exhilirating fight for a "traditional" group.
