Mannslieb and Morrslieb

Mannslieb and Morrslieb are the two moons which orbit the World where Warhammer and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning take place.

Mannslieb

Mannslieb is is a white-grey lump of cold rock which affects the tides of the Warhammer World, it is seen as very similar to Earth's moon, Luna. Mannslieb is known as the lover of the Old World Sea-God Manann, due to it having an effect on the Ocean's tides similar to the real world Moon.

Morrslieb

Morrslieb, also called the Dark Moon is a giant black and green lump of rock that orbits the Warhammer World. Morrslieb is seen as a symbol of Chaos and evil to the inhabitants of the Warhammer World and it's waxing is seen as a bad omen (and may possibly increase the extent of Chaos energy beyond the Chaos Wastes and Realm of Chaos). Morrslieb has eclipsed Mannslieb several times during Warhammer's history, always heralding dark times, the last occurrence was during the Storm of Chaos when Archaon's Chaos army attacked the Empire and the Dark Elves attacked the High Elves, however this is not part of the canon of WAR.

In the Age of Reckoning, the setting in which WAR takes place, Morrslieb has recently turned blood red and this caused great riots within The Empire. Morrslieb is said to be made from a giant chunk of Warpstone, obviously this unable to be verified. This may be analogous to rats in the real world who are seen to eat cheese, and the moon is also fancifully called a giant peice of cheese. In the Warhammer World, the Skaven, a race of rat-men, are notoriously fond of Warpstone. Morrslieb is possibly named after the Old World God of death, Morr. However Morr, unlike Morrslieb, is not associated at all with Chaos or evil, only the ending of life (regardless of the manner in which it is achieved) - unfortunately he is often misrepresented by uneducated or superstitious individuals in Warhammer.
