Aht Urhgan Whitegate

Naja Salaheem: What're ya doin' standin' arrround here? You're just gettin' in the way. Can't ya see how busy I am?

Naja Salaheem: What's your deal anyway? Ya got business with me?

Naja Salaheem: Nope, never seen ya before. Your lack of fashion sense, that slack-jawed face, and that slouching posture...ya can't possibly be from arrround these parts.

Naja Salaheem: You're a forrreigner, aren't ya?

Naja Salaheem: Heheh, I knew it.

Naja Salaheem: You'rrre just the type of person I've been looking for.

Naja Salaheem: Oh rrreally? You definitely don't look like someone from Aht Urhgan.

Naja Salaheem: You're prrretty naive if you think you can get a lie like that past Naja here.

Naja Salaheem: So ya came to be a merrrcenary, did ya?

Naja Salaheem: Don't you lie to me. I can see it in your eyes!

Naja Salaheem: Now you'rrre speaking my language.

Naja Salaheem: Your long journey has been worthwhile. We've been waiting for ya.

Naja Salaheem: Most of our work is official Empire business. In fact, we're the only mercenary organization in all of Al Zahbi that the rrroyal family puts its trust in. We're the best of the best, the crrream of the crop.

Naja Salaheem: But ya won't get any lucrative offers just finishin' up grrrunt work, so don't go thinkin' ya can slack off.

Naja Salaheem: Now do ya get it? First, ya gotta show me what you're made of.

Naja hands you a supplies package.

Naja Salaheem: Mothers here use stories of the Immortals to scarrre their kittens into eating their vegetables. The Immortals are the Empress's personal bodyguards, and they only hire the best of the best blue mages around.

Naja Salaheem: Common folk like us aren't even allowed a glimpse of Her Rrroyal Highness.

Naja Salaheem: But the Immortals, they're different. They have special perrrmission to attend to the Empress at close quarters.

Naja Salaheem: Is this sinkin' into that thick skull o' yours?

Naja Salaheem: In other words, ya can't get anywhere in this nation without goin' through the Immortals first.

Naja Salaheem: So beforrre ya do anything else, I need ya to go deliver this supplies package and make yourself known.

Naja Salaheem: If ya manage to make it back alive, we can start thinkin' about what to do with ya.

Naja Salaheem: The Immortals guard the Empress, ensure the safety of Al Zahbi, and manage affairs dealing with Assault.

Naja Salaheem: Each Assault warden is stationed at a staging point on the Ilrusi Atoll, Dvucca Isle, Halvung, in the domain of the Mamool Ja, or on Azouph Isle.

Naja Salaheem: No matter how high and mighty the Immortals are, I'm surrre they're tired of being stuck out in the middle of nowhere with nothin' to do. They'll probably be glad to see ya.

Naja Salaheem: Go deliver this supplies package and let 'em know who ya arrre! After that, we can start talking about your contrrract.

Mamool Ja Staging Point

Daswil: This is the Mamool Ja staging point. You are on Imperial terri...what's this?

Daswil: You have something to say? Out with it, now.

You show the supplies package to the Immortal.

Daswil grins slightly.

Daswil: Oho, so you brought me a supplies package! You must be one of Naja's messengers.

Daswil: This supplies package contains oil from a berry that can only be found in a nation that lies to the far south, called Zhwa. It takes days to extract the oil. This is a highly valuable item...

Daswil: Stationed out int this forsaken land without all the trimmings of home, the scent of this oil is our only comfort.

Daswil: You'll have to pardon me. I owe you for your kind service.

Daswil: Hopefully, you will find this information valuable...

Daswil: Do you see the glowing, blue design a bit behind you?

Daswil: That is a "runic portal." Runic portals are used for transport to distant locations.

Daswil: They are a product of the great wisdom of Aht Urhgan's honorable alchemists. It functions by wondrous principles that are completely unfathomable to me.

Daswil: You don't need to understand how it works to be impressed by the runic portals, though. Simply use it, and then you will truly understand its excellence.

Daswil: A few hours' walk from here will take you to Al Zahbi, but with the runic portal, you can be there in the wink of an eye!

Daswil: Not only that, but if you travel to the capital from here, henceforth you will be able to return to this place using the same method!

Daswil: If you should ever have urgent business here at the Mamool Ja staging point, you can make good use of the runic portal.

Dvucca Isle Staging Point

Nahshib: I am Nahshib, and this is the Dvucca Isle staging point.

I will fulfill my duties to the Empress day or night, rain or shine!

Nahshib: What I'm really trying to say, though, is that...

Nahshib: If you've got something to say, then spit it out!

You show the supplies package to the Immortal.

Nahshib looks confused.

Nahshib: A supplies package? Did you meet with Naja Salaheem?

Nahshib: I heard from Daswil that a supplies package can be used to earn recognition as an Immortal...

Nahshib: I never imagined I would get my hands on one so early... I'm still a brand-new member, after all.

Nahshib: Oh, yes. Let me thank you.

Nahshib: I have some good news for you.

Nahshib: Do you see that shining blue pedestal behind you?

Nahshib: It's a transport device called a "runic portal."

Nahshib: Apparently, the great alchemists of Aht Urhgan created it. That kind of knowledge is completely beyond me.

Nahshib: It doesn't really matter, though. All that matters is that it's extremely convenient. Why not give it a try?

Nahshib: You'll be in for a surprise... Before you know it, you'll find yourself in the "Chamber of Passage" in Al Zahbi!

Nahshib: Then, you'll be able to use the runic portal to freely travel to and from Al Zahbi.

Nahshib: The next time you wish to return here to the Dvucca Isle staging point, you would do well to remember the runic portal.

Azouph Isle Staging Point

Nareema: I, Nareema, will carry out the Empress's orders through fire, ice, and storm!

Oh...welcome to the Azouph Isle staging point.

Nareema: You got something you want to say to me?

You show the supplies package to the Immortal.

Nareema's face lights up!

Nareema: Oh! A supplies package! How did you get this?

Nareema: It's magnificent... Look how it gleams... This scent makes me feel so fresh and pure!

Nareema: This is such a precious item. Than you so much!

Nareema: What can I give you to show you my gratitude?

Nareema: Oh, I know! I have some fantastic information for you.

Nareema: See the glowing blue device behind you?

Nareema: That's a "runic portal", the pride of Aht Urhgan!

Nareema: Our brilliant alchemists created it themselves. It takes you apart and puts you back together in a faraway place!

Nareema: Scary, isn't it? I was scared at first, too. I mean, the entire contraption is simply beyond belief. It's hard to believe that such a thing could exist on Vana'diel!

Nareema: I really don't get it... How could your body be disassembled, and then each individual molecule meticulously reassembled in Al Zahbi's Chamber of Passage? Does that make sense to you?

Nareema: Well, it might be frightening, but once you've traveled to Al Zahbi once using the runic portal, you can use it to return here, too!

Nareema: So if you'd ever like to talk with me again, don't forget about it!

Halvung Staging Point

Waudeen: What brings you here? This is the Halvung staging point. From here we keep close surveillance on lands that are of strategic--

Waudeen: Eh? And whose messenger would you be?

You show the supplies package to the Immortal.

Waudeen's staunch expression begins to soften!

Waudeen: You brought a supplies package for me? Well, why didn't you say so sooner?

Waudeen: This supplies package was created from the oil of a berry that can only be found in the nation of Zhwa, to the far south. It takes days to extract the oil, and the fragrance it gives off is simply indescribable.

Waudeen: Here, we are so used to the stench of fighting and pain... This oil will be indispensable if I ever should have the fortune to meet with the Empress again.

Waudeen: Oh, I must thank you for bringing this supplies package to me!

Waudeen: Will a bit of information do?

Waudeen: Allow me to explain about the glowing blue device behind you.

Waudeen: That is a "runic portal." It has the power to carry you to a distant location.

Waudeen: I am not precisely sure how it works, but it is one of the many curious magical creations of the alchemists in the royal court.

Waudeen: All speculation aside, however, the device is quite convenient. You should give it a try.

Waudeen: You are certain to be amazed when you arrive in Al Zahbi in the blink of an eye!

Waudeen: In addition, you will be able to use the device from Al Zahbi after traveling once from here.

Waudeen: I highly advise making use of it when you have urgent business here at the Halvung staging point.

Ilrusi Atoll

Meyaada: Yes? What do you require?

Meyaada: You wish to tell me something, yes? What is it?

You show the supplies package to the Immortal.

A light gleams in Meyaada's eyes!

Meyaada: A supplies package? For me?

Meyaada: This scent is heavenly...

Meyaada: Thank you.

Meyaada: Oh, yes...

Meyaada: I can give you some valuable information.

Meyaada: Behind you lies a gleaming blue device.

Meyaada: It is called a "runic portal."

Meyaada: Runic portals were developed by the Aht Urhgan alchemists using state-of-the-art technology.

Meyaada: I am sure that you will find them most useful.

Meyaada: You can use a runic portal to transport yourself to Al Zahbi in a moment's time.

Meyaada: After going to Al Zahbi once using the portal, you can freely travel back and forth between the Imperial capital and here.

Meyaada: I am sure you will find many an occasion to use it.

Aht Urhgan Whitegate

Naja Salaheem: Oho, ya made it back in one piece? I figured you'd be chopped liver by now.

Naja Salaheem: Heh, sorry 'bout that. I'm sure it was a walk in the park for an adventurer like you.

Naja Salaheem: What'd ya say your name was again, kid? Judging by your skills, you've gotta be pretty famous, rrright?

Naja Salaheem: Well, what'rrre ya waitin' for? Give me your name.

Naja Salaheem: You don't want to give your name to poor little Naja?

Naja Salaheem: What would it hurt? I just wanna let all the other mercenaries know what a special guy/gal I've found.

Naja Salaheem: PLAYERNAME!

Naja Salaheem: Rowr! That name just scrrreams "power"! How d'ya spell that, anyway? You foreigners' names are a real headache. You're gonna have to wrrrite that one down for me.

PLAYERNAME writes his/her name down on a sheet of parchment.

Naja Salaheem: "PLAYERNAME," is it? My... What an...interesting name.

Naja Salaheem: "I vow... Through rain and through wind, Running not from storms of arrows, and fearing not blasts of magic...

Naja Salaheem: "To defend in times of beastman attacks... And to venture out in times of peace..."

Naja Salaheem: Uh...let's see here... "In sickness and in health... Through curses and petrification...

Naja Salaheem: "I pledge myself to Salaheem's Sentinels...for all eternity."

Naja Salaheem: Hee hee.♪ "Signed...PLAYERNAME."

Naja Salaheem: Yes, yes. Brilliantly worded...as always.

Naja Salaheem: Anyway... I now prrronounce you an official employee of Salaheem's Sentinels.

Naja Salaheem: Congratulations!

Naja Salaheem: Welcome to the world of bein' a Private Second Class.

Naja Salaheem: You're gonna love worrrking under me. I have plenty to keep ya busy.

Naja Salaheem: Well? What're ya grrrumblin' about now? Ya don't like "Second Class" bein' part of your title?

Naja Salaheem: Tough luck!

Naja Salaheem: I don't care how spoiled ya were in the west. Whether ya were a knight or musketeer or wizard, it don't mean a thing to me.

Naja Salaheem: But ya better not forget that you're a mercenary now, and a rookie, at that!

Naja Salaheem: If ya got a problem with that, then participate in Assault missions or do whatever ya need to prove you've got what it takes.

Naja Salaheem: Come to mention it, I don't think I've said anything 'bout Assualt yet...

Naja Salaheem: Let's start with the basics, shall we?

Naja Salaheem: First, ya need to get your tail over to the Commissions Agency.

Naja Salaheem: ...That's an order.

Naja Salaheem: I'll let them know you're coming, so they should let ya see a list of work available.

Naja Salaheem: Pick whichever one ya think ya can handle.

Naja Salaheem: Don't forget, you're still a frrresh recruit.

Naja Salaheem: The most important thing for ya to do is choose a job ya can accomplish successfully so we can make a prrrofit.

Naja Salaheem: Got it?

Naja Salaheem: Now don't just stand there with your mouth hangin' open! Get your tail over to the Commissions Agency prrronto!
