First Aid is a very useful secondary skill skill for any class to have, but almost a necessity for non-healing classes.

First Aid allows characters to create bandages out of various types of cloth as well as anti-venom to cure poisons.
To make bandages, First Aid requires cloth. Cloth can be found on most humanoid mobs. Anti-venom requires venom sacs that are typically dropped by spiders and scorpions.
First Aid is a secondary skill, which means there is no reason to specifically avoid it, though it uses the same materials as Tailoring, which may make it more difficult to level for tailors. However, at the earlier levels in certain starting areas, the cloth drops are plentiful, making this less of an issue there. (Tirisfal Glades, the Undead starting zone, is an example of one of the best zones for cloth. For the Alliance, somewhere like Elwynn Forest is best.)
Sometimes people playing classes that can self-heal such as priests, paladins, druids and shaman mistakenly believe that they won't get much use out of First Aid. While it's certainly not as important for them as it would be for a rogue, it's still a very useful skill to have. It will help to speed leveling as you can save your mana for your damage spells, and it's quicker than eating, allowing you to quest and grind faster. Also, it can be very helpful in instances when your healer is overtaxed or othewise unable to heal you.
There is no specialization for First Aid.
As of patch 3.1, there is no longer a requirement to complete any quests to level First Aid.
The final bandage, Heavy Frostweave Bandage is learned from a manual. The manual is a world drop, and you needed to have learned Grand Master First Aid and reached First Aid level 390, before it will drop for you.
