Square Enix would like to take a moment to make an important announcement to their valued players and fans regarding the future of FINAL FANTASY XIV. Here are the main points:

  • The subscription-based billing system will commence between late November and early December 2011.
  • Between October and December 2012, they plan to integrate the current service and the coming PlayStation 3 version into the all-new FFXIV. At this time, a second free trial period will also be offered.

now... after reading the full article, this all sounds fantastic for the game. i can only hope they take an aggressive marketing strategy, highlight all the wonderful sounding changes to some severely lacking core game elements, and get this game to where it should have been a year ago. looking forward to seeing these changes implemented and hopefully followed by an influx of new and returning players!
