Today's preview article will cover treasure hunting, one of many new additions in the upcoming patch 2.1.
Whether you're alone or with comrades, the undiscovered fortunes of Eorzea are ripe for the taking!

  • Treasure Hunt Overview
In the course of gathering, Disciples of the Land will now be able to obtain timeworn maps, items which can then be deciphered to reveal the location of hidden treasure.

1. Obtaining a Timeworn Map

Disciples of the Land level 40 or higher will occasionally come across timeworn maps when gathering or fishing. Appearing in five degrees of rarity, these maps are unique items which can be traded or sold on the market. After obtaining a timeworn map, players will be unable to find another for a short period of time.
* Timeworn maps cannot be obtained from unspoiled locations or the Sea of Clouds

2. Necessary Skills for Treasure Hunting

Decipher: Remove a timeworn map from its glass prison and unlock its mysteries.
Dig: Locate and extract a treasure chest from the ground.Range: 30y

In order to track down and unearth the treasures marked on timeworn maps, players must first learn the skills Decipher and Dig. These skills can be acquired by completing the quest below.

Quest Name: Treasures and Tribulations
Area:Eastern La Noscea Wineport (X:21 Y:21) NPC Name: H'loonh

3. Deciphering a Timeworn Map

Using the skill Decipher, adventurers may glean the location of treasure from timeworn maps. Upon using the skill, the timeworn map will transform into a treasure map key item, which can then be used to identify the treasure's general location, and the number of players recommended to search for it.

Using a treasure map will bring up a window indicating the general area of the treasure. Players must then cross-reference the area map to identify its precise location. Using the skill Dig in the correct location will unearth a treasure chest.

4. Opening Treasure Chests

The act of opening a chest will spring a trap that lures an enemy to the scene. The strength of your foe and the contents of the chest will vary depending on the treasure map's rarity. If you and your party fail to triumph within the allotted time, or leave the area, the treasure chest will vanish and the hunt will end in failure.

5. Obtaining Rewards

By defeating the enemy guarding the chest, players will gain access to the treasures within. All party members who participated in the hunt will receive various rewards such as experience points, gil, Allagan Tomestones, elemental shards, or equipment.

* Please note that Treasure Hunt is still in development, and certain details are subject to change.

Loving this. Good Ole fashioned treasure hunting that does not involve Raiding. Pitty the loot from this stuff won't be as significant, but darned if I won't be enjoying it thoroughly anyways.

Finally something I can stay on another month to do. I've done all the guild quest but it's the little achievements for every class for DoH and DoL that's takes up my time.

I like that you can sell Timeworn maps on AH - another chance to make some monies for Gatherers!

I'm thinking the same thing but the cynic in me expects the prices to be undercut to hell and back.

I doubt they will be undercut that badly, unless the loot is worthless. You have to have a DoL job at 40, and you can only get one map every 18 hours.

The first thing I'm checking is the cost of phil mats and the Vanya recipes. Nobody seems to be able to confirm if there were actually any changes to their cost/materials required.

This looks fun. Now when it says "After obtaining a timeworn map, players will be unable to find another for a short period of time. " does that refer to just Gathering? Can you buy multiple maps off the boards?

Upon accessing gathering points at level 40 or above, Disciples of the Land will, on occasion, obtain a timeworn map.

Timeworn Leather Map: Level 40 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes.
Timeworn Goatskin Map: Level 45 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes.
Timeworn Toadskin Map: Level 50 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes (South Umbral Isles and Rathefrost only)
Timeworn Boarskin Map: Level 50 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes (Reaver Hide and the Tangle only)
Timeworn Peisteskin Map: Level 50 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes (Lake Tahtotl, Parata's Peace, and the North Shards only).
* Timeworn maps cannot be found at unspoiled gathering points or guildleve gathering points.
* Timeworn map locations are not be recorded in gathering and fishing logs.
*Once you obtain any rank of timeworn map, then you will be unable to obtain new map for next 18 hours in earth time.
* Timeworn maps can be traded and sold on the market board.

Sounds like 18 hours between digging them up, meaning RMT bots aren't going to be able to flood the market with them

Just for future reference I wanted to add this into the info:

Timeworn Goatskin Map: Recommended Level 45 (Solo)
Timeworn Toadskin Map: Recommended Level 50 (Solo)
Timeworn Boarskin Map: Recommended Level 50 (Solo)
Timeworn Peisteskin Map: Recommende Level 50 (Full Party)

2.1 update has me staying in the game longer. I'm a hardcore player with nothing to do after Tuesday. Now, perhaps I'll have something to do the whole week.

I want new experiences in the game, so the new quests and the treasure hunts are ripe for me.

I'm thinking, getting 4 people who each have a map and then doing 4 quests. I'm hoping that its only the person with the map that once they do the quest can't get another map for 18 hours, not that all 4 people will get the 18 hr wait.

Seems like we can only hold one map at a time. Bah.

I am looking forward to it, and could be a fun event each day for FC friends.
Yeah for my fisher and miner level 50's!!

Considering the price of housing, some of these treasure chests better be overflowing with gil.

You can hold multiple of the timeworn maps that you dig up and can sell at the AH, but you have an 18 hour timer until you can dig another up.

When you use a timeworn map, it turns into a key item treasure map; you can only have one of that key item at a time.

The full party recommendation is 8 members for the Timeworn Peisteskin Map.

One lingering thought I had while reading most of the "housing" threads around here was "It would not surprise me if these treasure chests had HUGE amounts of gil in them".

In either case, I know which gathering point I intend to use first. It was one that I was going to hit anyway; but now I can make progress on THREE things by going there.

Was able to hop on just a little before work today (3am PST) and get a Boarskin Map.

Did not take long at all. 3rd dig spot brought it up. Now I need to do the quest to learn how to open the map and use it.

Chest gave me:
3 Myth tomes
Aetherial Cobalt Sollerets
5 eagle feathers (new I gather. No past sales on the AH)
220 earth shards
5 HQ Boar leathers
1692 gil

That's pretty good, the shards are bout 6-9k alone, plus the 1692 gil, the hq boar leathers are 1k a piece? Aetherial stuff i think is unsellable, and no idea about the feathers, but all in all about 20k? Thats not bad.

That is actually considerably better than I'd hoped. And though you can't sell that pink item, you could trade it for about 135 seals I'd wager. That, or sb it and hope for good materia.

Now... WTF are eagle feathers for????

Gamerescape lists it's subcategory as Cloth, so it must be a weaving ingredient.
