Now that I've capped my first Crafting class I need to work out what Materia I want to bond with my equipment and I've a few questions.

  • Does Craftmanship, Control and CP have a cap @ level?
  • Is there any benefit to adding +Mind and +Dex Materia opposed to +Craftsmanship or +Control Materia?
  • What is the best food for crafting? I've been advised by my FC that I should use +Control food over anything else, but as they were heading into an instance they didn't elaborate on why.

Any thoughts?

There are caps on the ammount of stats a piece of gear can have, which more or less caps what you can have at any level.

EG at level 25, on a HQ head piece, you might not be able to add more than 3 craftsmanship/2 (just an example not actual numbers). When you look at it like that, at 25 with a full suit of HQ gear, at best your looking at +30 control / + 40 craftsman ship / +30 cp....or something like that.

So at the end of the day, you do hit a sorta cap per level at the max for each of the 3 crafting stats. As far as i know, there is no reason for a crafter to add anything other than crafting stats.

Food /stat wise its pretty much control is king. Control determines quality per step, Craftsmanship you want high enough so that it doesn't take 5+ steps to finish an item. EG, on a 40 durability item, you want enough craftsman ship to get it down to 1 + progress to finish, maybe 2. After that there is no real point in adding more craftsman ship.

With the way inner quiet works though, you can add control until the cows come home and still get a benefit from it. The short and sweet version is this. Inner quiet adds + 20% of your base control for each successful +quality action. So if you add + 20 control with food, and take your control from 200 to 220, it means inner quiet will add 44 control instead of 40 each time.

I would recommend reading alot on how crafting works as you begin, it wont make a lot of sense, but as you start leveling and gaining multiple cross class abilities, it wil make a lot more sense.
