This is one of those consequences of not really seeing rubber banding in that the client trusts the user too much when matters of connection difficulties arise. Rig the system into tricking the game into thinking you're DCing and moving from 10,10 to 11,12 by sending the right packet is pretty much what we're getting out of this. On the gathering end, this is why you absolutely need some kind of sanity check for interaction between points, because when you find the best conditions for a legit player to move between nodes to be something like, say, 5s, but one of these bots are doing it in under 2? It's just obvious they're not playing by the rules. @#%^, at this point I'd accept a default 10s delay once vacating/finishing a node before you could work on another. It'd at least level the playing field slightly.
Make it 5 seconds, since that is the time it takes the legit player to get there.
This reminds me of the horrible time had in Halo 2 where one player would get host, then hit the reset button on the modem so that everyone starts to lag. Meanwhile he's running around killing all the players who are standing still. The connection pops back in and boom, everyone drops. Great fun...
