- How to play Allagan Hi-LoFollow

#1 Sep 29 2013 at 8:31 PM Rating: Decent
I've come up with a mini game for FFXIV:ARR and I'd like to set up a few mock rounds with people who would like to help me test it.

The game is called Allagan Hi-Lo. It is a mixture of dice and poker played with Allagan peices as "chips" (no gil betting allowed).
Games are broken into tiers corresponding to the type of Allagan piece that can be used. Games are either "limited" in which a player can only "raise" the bet once by a maximum of 1 additional piece, or "unlimited" in which a player can raise indefinitely by any amount of pieces. All participating players must be in a party and sitting around the same table.
A CNJ is required to play the role of "dealer" and use abilities such as medica to generate random heal numbers throughout the party of players. It is also the responsibility of the CNJ to collect bets and distribute the pot to the winner (dealer cannot partake in the betting but keeps 1 piece for each normal round of betting). At the start of a round, the CNJ will cast cure on him/herself, if his/her heal number is even then the round is "Hi" and the player with the highest medica heal wins (lowest medica heal busts out), if the CNJ's cure spell is odd then the round is "Lo", the CNJ goes into "Cleric Stance" and the player with the lowest medica heal wins (highest heal busts out). Before CNJ casts medica there will be a round of betting in which the players can either "fold" and forfeit all previous bets, "stay" by meeting the current bet or "raise" by betting at least 1 piece more than the current bet (best heal of previous round get a 1 piece credit).

Lets run through some example games to help clarify everything as well as explain the "sudden death" rounds.

Example game 1: Tin tier (limited)
(4 betting players are sitting at a table, dealer is standing between two of them)

***Round 1***
- Dealer casts "cure" on self. Heals for 162 and states in chat log "round is hi".

- Dealer states "bet is 1".

- Dealer /points to player_1 (dealer's immediate left), player_1 states "stay" and trades 1 Allagan tin piece to dealer.

- Moving clockwise dealer /points to player_2, player_2 states "stay" and trades 1 Allagan tin piece to dealer.

- Dealer /points to player_3, player_3 states "raise" and trades 2 Allagan tin pieces to dealer.

- Dealer states "bet is 2".

- Dealer /points to player_4, player_4 states "stay" and trades 2 Allagan tin pieces to dealer.

- Dealer /points to player_1, player_1 trades 1 Allagan tin piece to dealer to meet the bet.

- Dealer /points to player_2, player_2 trades 1 Allagan tin piece to dealer to meet the bet.

- Dealer states "pot is 7" (dealer keeps 1 piece).

- Dealer casts "medica".

- player_1 heals for 141, player_2 heals for 140, player_3 heals for 143, player_4 heals for 141.

- player_2 busts out of the game.

***Round Over***

***Round 2***
- Dealer stands to the right of player_3 (best heal of previous round)

- Dealer casts "cure" on self, heals for 163 and states "round is lo".

- Dealer uses "Cleric Stance".

- Dealer states "bet is 1".

- Dealer /points to player_3, player_3 states "stay" and does not trade with dealer (has a 1 piece credit for best heal, not included in pot)

- Moving clockwise dealer /points to player_4, player_4 states "raise" and trades 2 Allagan tin pieces to dealer.

- Dealer states "bet is 2".

- Dealer /points to player_1, player_1 states "raise" and trades 3 Allagan tin pieces to dealer.

- Dealer states "bet is 3".

- Dealer /points to player_3, player_3 trades 2 Allagan tin pieces to dealer to meet the bet.

- Dealer /points to player_4, player_4 states "fold" and sits out (does not get refunded for previous bets).

- Dealer states "pot is 13" (keeps another piece).

- Dealer casts "medica"

- player_3 heals for 122, player_1 heals for 121.

- player_1 wins the match with the best heal (round is lo), dealer trades 13 Allagan tin pieces to player_1.
***Game Over***

The next example includes a round of Sudden Death. Sudden Death rounds are ALWAYS unlimited. In the event of a tie pot is split evenly.

Example Game 2: Silver Tier (unlimited)
(4 betting players are sitting at a table, dealer is standing between two of them)

***Round 1***
- Dealer casts "cure" on self, heals for 163 and states "round is lo".

- Dealer uses "cleric stance".

- Dealer states "bet is 1".

- Dealer /points to player_1, player_1 states "stay" and trades 1 Allagan silver piece to dealer.

- Moving clockwise dealer /points to player_2, player_2 states "raise" and trades 13 Allagan silver pieces to dealer.

- Dealer states "bet is 13".

- Dealer /points to player_3, player_3 states "stay" and trades 13 Allagan silver pieces to dealer.

- Dealer /points to player_4, player_4 states "stay" and trades 13 Allagan silver pieces to dealer.

- Dealer /points to player_1, player_1 trades 12 Allagan silver pieces to dealer to meet the bet.

- Dealer states "pot is 51" (keeps 1 piece).

- Dealer casts "medica".

- player_1 heals for 124, player_2 heals for 121, player_3 heals for 120, player_4 heals for 124.

- player_1 and player_4 bust out of the game.
***Round Over***

***Round 2***
- Dealer stands to the right of player_3 (best heal of previous round).

- Dealer casts "cure" on self, heals for 140 and states "round is hi".

- Dealer exits "cleric stance".

- Dealer states "bet is 1".

- Dealer /points to player_3, player_3 states "raise" and trades 2 Allagan silver piece to dealer.

- Dealer states "bet is 3" (player_3 had a 1 piece credit which is added to the "bet" but not the "pot")

- Dealer /points to player_2, player_2 states "raise" and trades 4 Allagan silver pieces to dealer.

- Dealer states "bet is 4".

- Dealer /points to player_3, player_3 states "raise" and trades 2 Allagan silver pieces to dealer.

- Dealer states "bet is 5".

- Dealer /points to player_2, player_2 trades 1 Allagan Silver piece to dealer to meet the bet.

- Dealer states "pot is 59" (dealer keeps 1 piece).

- Dealer casts "medica"

- player_3 heals for 122, player_2 heals for 122.

- Tied round.

***Round Over***

***Round 3 "Sudden Death"***
- Dealer does not move because there was no "best heal".

- Dealer casts "cure" on self, heals for 160 and states "round is hi".

- Dealer states "bet is 1".

- Dealer /points to player_3, player_states "raise" and trades 5 Allagan silver pieces to dealer.

- Dealer states "bet is 5" (Player_3 no longer has a 1 piece credit because he was not "best heal" of previous round).

- Dealer /points to player_2, player_2 states "raise" and trades 7 Allagan silver pieces to dealer.

- Dealer states "bet is 7".

- Dealer /points to player_3, player_3 states "raise" and trades 10 Allagan silver pieces to dealer.

- Dealer states "bet is 15".

- Dealer /points to player_2, player_2 trades 6 Allagan silver pieces to dealer to meet the bet.

- Dealer states "pot is 89" (dealer does not keep a piece for "Sudden Death" rounds).

- Dealer casts "medica".

- player_3 heals for 122, player_2 heals for 124.

- player_2 wins the match with the best heal (round is hi), dealer trades 89 Allagan silver pieces to player_2.
***Game Over***

***ALTERNATE GAME STYLE***
The game "Allagan Death Match" consists of a single round of Sudden Death between 2-4 players. Dealer does keep 1 piece for this type of game.

Points to remember:
- Dealer must have the "cure", "medica" and "cleric stance" abilities.
- Dealer cannot participate in betting.
- Dealer must be in "cleric stance" for lo rounds and not in "cleric stance" for hi rounds.
- Player's wait until they are pointed to before they "stay", "raise" or "fold".
- Best heal of the previous round gets a 1 piece credit. This credit can affect the "bet" but not the "pot". If more than one player ties for best heal then no credit is awarded.
- Sudden Death is always unlimited and only lasts a single round. In the event of a tie pot is split evenly.
- In "limited" games player's can only "raise" one time by 1 additional piece.
- Player's can only bet the type of piece that corresponds to the game's Tier, for example only bronze pieces can be bet during a Bronze Tier game.

I like it.

What is the thing with the highest cure gets a tin piece though?

Any WHM or person with a lot of MND is gonna get the highest score regardless on that.

Only the Dealer's stats should affect heal numbers because only the dealer is allowed to cast medica, which will heal everyone in the party.

As far as the extra tin piece, its just a little bonus for getting the best heal.
