Normally when I play an MMO, I only play for a month or two at a time before I need to take a break due to real life issues. For FF14, I am going to need to do this as soon as my free time runs out. However, it seems to be auto set to renew payments and there is a cancel service account button. If I do not select to cancel service account, will it automatically force me to pay for another month? Also, will cancelling the account get rid of the characters?

Given that no one actually has any experience with this in 2.0, I will say that, assuming they stick to their normal billing practices, if you do not cancel before your renew date it will automatically charge you and give you another month of access. If you do cancel before your renew date you will not be deleted. In addition, your characters will stay there until you return, will probably hang out for a couple of years without incident, and, if they do disappear, will be able to be reactivated by SE customer service (once they are actually available to do things again).

Cancelling your account simply suspends it. You are not charged a recurring fee and your characters remain intact. Nothing on your account changes and the only way to delete characters is doing it yourself via the character select screen. If you need to take a break simply cancel the account before you get billed and you can resume service whenever you want to.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.
