Binding keys on a keyboard (no joystick)Follow

#1 Sep 19 2013 at 1:26 AM Rating: Decent
Hi everyone,

I would like to ask for some help.
Just bought the game yesterday and after 9 hours of update, I was able to launch the game.
On the menu screen, I went to "Settings" and tried to customize my bindings. However, on the settings menu, (under the joystick icon) I can only set up bindings for the joystick and I cannot chose the keyboard. Is there anyone that can indicate me where and how to config the keyboard?

Many many thanks!

Unsure if you are able to play with all 3 (if that is what you are asking?) at the same time.
But under Character Customization (I think, not logged in to be 100%), the 1st 2 options should be able to toggle between KB/M and Controller.

I have it set to controller, but I know some of the game keybinds work in this mode. CRTL-U for instance.

As soon as I get home, i'll try on the first screen, when launching the game, before logging in (if i got it correctly).
I'm not trying to play with all 3? Just trying to customize the keyboard controls and I could not find where. I can find the customisation of the controls of the joystick but not for the keyboard.

Thx

It is a separate button in the menu called "Keybinds".

You can get there through the main menu, press "Start" on PS3. You will probably want to turn of the little button that says "Enable direct chat." That way you can use the whole keyboard for keybinds.

And yes you can play with all three, keyboard, mouse and controller, at the same time, on both PS3 and PC.

If only you could bind macros and skills to keyboard on PS3. That's the only thing I dislike about the PS3 version. The controller is enough to do everything. But it's not enough to do everything fast.

I'm right there with you. You can set some of your keyboard buttons up to active the controller buttons, namely L2 and R2. Now you can hold whatever button down is if you were holding the controller trigger to activate the crossbar(s). Now you CAN do Keybinds, they just have to be Combos. Set the D-pad and Buttons to keyboard keys and you can duplicate the controller functionality on your keyboard. If you set the Cross bar to "Toggle" you can actually do Keybinds directly using this method.

When I play with my daughter on PS3 she can control her character and I can use the mouse to point the way, or even click directly on her cross bar to activate actions. I have her Crossbars set to "Toggle" since her fingers are a bit small for button Combos. And of course I have a "/targetenemy" User Macro for her to get the fights started.

When she plays her character on the PC, all of the Hotbars are on the screen in addition to the controller Crossbar. Now I have every Keybind, and Hotbar and Menu, etc. available with the mouse + keyboard. It's so much easier to pitch in when I need to.

On a side note: For anyone looking to play FFXIV with your kids, FFXIV on PC is incredibly friendly (PS3 works, just not as many input options). You can both control the character at the same time. I would expect the controller and mouse+keyboard to conflict, but it does not! Not at all. It's like the perfect scenario for teaching a kid to play an MMO.
