Can anyone link me to a good controller link for targeting macros?

Ok if there are no links to give. Then at least let me ask something.

Does the icon targeting work like this video?
Push a target home button or unsheathe weapon to automatcially bring up 10-20 target icons correlating to gamepad buttons.
Press the target and corresponding button as needed.
Monster is engaged.

Then while in target mode, the right analog could work as the type of target switch.
Right analog up= PC
Right analog down= Enemies
Right analog left= NPC/object
Right analog right= I forget what the fourth option was in game.

If not, it should be.

With this, how would you rotate the camera? The way it works here, is once activated in options, you can hit L1 + any of the four face buttons to switch filters.

Hold down L1 and L2 to enter target mode?

I dont know what you mean by target mode. If it's what I think you mean, its called stance in this game. you can target anything in any stance. The stances are weapon sheath, weapon drawn. simply selecting an enemy target will take you from regular (passive) stance to battle stance. You cycle through targets with the dpad and select them with the X button (A on 360) Whether in passive stance or battle stance, you can change your target cycling filters by pressing L1 + any of the face buttons, granted you have that option enabled in your Character Configuration under the System menu.

This is the main question I put forward.
Do both the directional pad and face button setup require cycling?

There is no need to cycle, cycling is horrendously slow, especially with congested areas and playing on ps3.

Is there a way to bring up the face button icons to where it displays 20 targets all mapped to different face buttons?

X= Target 1
Square= Target 2
Triangle= Target 3
Circle= Target 4
X+Square= Target 5
X+Triangle= Target 6
X+Circle= Target 7
and so on totaling up to twenty available targets.

Say the icons for all targets are shown at one time. I push X+Triangle and target 6 is engaged then and there.

The target type filter doesn't need to be set to the right analog like I listed. It can be any button.

If it isn't like this it needs to be. The game on gamepad needs to move away from cycling anything.

No, you either cycle with the dpad or you point with a mouse. There is too much going on in an MMO with thousands of players for something like what you are suggesting to even be remotely possible. Sure, it works well enough on a tightly control, largely predictable Madden game. For example, lets say you were in a large FATE (which is basically an open world battle with multiple players and monsters, sometimes close to 50 or more) and you wanted to target a specific individual, mob or whatever? Even if you used every single combination on that controller to designate which one to target, there still wouldnt be enough and further more, you would have no control scheme for actually performing abilities or casting spells.

I'm not sure if you have a PC or not, but if so, I'd suggest getting that so you can just click them with the mouse to target them. Other than that, you're going to have to use the dpad. There's no way around it aside from walking up to each mob that you want to attack and then hitting your X button.

When L2/R2 are pressed, L1/R1 switch targets between active enemies on the field, up/down does party members, and left/right does everything. I've been force training myself to get used to the L1/R1 targeting.
