I dont know what you mean by target mode. If it's what I think you mean, its called stance in this game. you can target anything in any stance. The stances are weapon sheath, weapon drawn. simply selecting an enemy target will take you from regular (passive) stance to battle stance. You cycle through targets with the dpad and select them with the X button (A on 360) Whether in passive stance or battle stance, you can change your target cycling filters by pressing L1 + any of the face buttons, granted you have that option enabled in your Character Configuration under the System menu.

This is the main question I put forward.
Do both the directional pad and face button setup require cycling?
There is no need to cycle, cycling is horrendously slow, especially with congested areas and playing on ps3.
Is there a way to bring up the face button icons to where it displays 20 targets all mapped to different face buttons?
X= Target 1
Square= Target 2
Triangle= Target 3
Circle= Target 4
X+Square= Target 5
X+Triangle= Target 6
X+Circle= Target 7
and so on totaling up to twenty available targets.
Say the icons for all targets are shown at one time. I push X+Triangle and target 6 is engaged then and there.
The target type filter doesn't need to be set to the right analog like I listed. It can be any button.
If it isn't like this it needs to be. The game on gamepad needs to move away from cycling anything.
