Somewhat stupid questionFollow

#1 Sep 11 2013 at 12:51 AM Rating: Decent
I've managed to get FF14 to finally work, so awesome for that. Here's my stupid question. I've been noticing that I suffer from very quick, brief freezes during cutscenes while in game. Sometimes it's a flicker of black, other times it's a quick blip of green. This causes the application to hang and ultimately freeze. It's not heat, I've been thorough with that. However, I noticed for some reason my NVidia Control Panel was forcing a bunch of things. It was overriding in game ambient occlusion, AA, and Negative LOD bias to name a few. The meat of the stupid here is, could this possibly be the root of my problem; these global overrides? Keep in mind I've suffered this issue in other games as well and I have no idea how long my settings have been fouled like that.

I appreciate the help.

It would be helpful if you posted your PC's specs.

I don't have an answer for you, but I've gotten the flickers of black every now and then. They haven't ever crashed the application though, so I'm not 100% sure we're talking about the same thing. Don't have my system stats handy, but my wife's system is the same as mine and she hasn't seen what I'm talking about.

So, I'll see your "stupid" question and raise you one completely useless reply. Good luck!

If it's only in CS's, i doubt it's your vid card settings. I'd try updating the drivers for it first thing.

That definitely sounds like your video driver is having a bad time. Might be as simple as updating it, might want to look into un-forcing some of those settings and letting the game take care of its own graphics.

I'm hoping it's the forced video settings. I had no idea they were being forced globally. As for the driver, I'm running Nvidia 326.41 beta drivers. Perhaps I should change back to an official release?

Bad thing is I can't just test this right off. I have to look for quests with cutscenes or maybe even create a new character for that opening cinematic.

Use the journal in your inn room to replay cutscenes.

And yeah, I'd switch back to a non-beta driver and remove the forced settings. See what that does for you.

Which inn is that? I haven't had much time to play it with work so I haven't found that particular function.

Every inn.

If you haven't progressed enough in the story to have access to inn rooms yet, you don't have much to worry about regarding missing stuff. Just keep going and you'll get there just fine.
