Leveling LimboFollow

#1 Sep 04 2013 at 6:11 PM Rating: Decent
Not sure if anyone else feels this way, but I got up to level 30 SMN (Yaay me!) But....I went to go level LNC and I found myself kinda stuck in a limbo. When I first began my character I did all the quest in Ul'Dah and in Gridania. Limsa is also finished for the beginner quest. I ended up doing the more intermediate quest for my 2nd job on trying to unlock SMN. Now that I'm bringing up LNC, I find myself...lost. I've been doing my hunting log, but I can't do any Leves until 10 and my hunting log has left me stuck at level 8 due to difficulty rank! Some of the Fates I end up coming up late on and I'm too low leveled to do a dungeon (Uness there is one for those who are above 5 but not yet to 10) so the only thing I can see myself doing is grinding on mobs. Anyone else run into this snag? I kinda wish there was a way to reset the basic quest. :(

Get into a fate party. It's amazing xp and great for GC seals. For some, i was getting 15k xp, and 7k for most...with over 100 seals per fate.

You can hit 50 just by doing the story/job quests and maybe a few side quests. Rest of the side quests are for the 2nd/3rd job...I ended up rerolling to fix my mistake lol(Now I wait for server xfers)

Usually doing Fates is hit or miss though with most of them. It's either you get in and get the exp or you come in late. :(

Smiley: dubious

At level 34, I'm seeing story and job quests awarding around 7-8k exp each. It takes 203k exp for me to level to 35. That means that at level 34 in order to level entirely on quests (and related mob kills of course) it would take somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 story and job quests. There aren't that many that can be done at that level (no job quest because the level is not a multiple of 5, and not nearly that many story quests).

A combination of FATEs, dungeon grinding, and questing through the story CAN do it, but I've still come up short a whole bunch of times and had to resort to straight mob grinds while hunting for FATEs.

It doesn't help that the side quest progression goes directly to hell once you start having to bouncing all over the world, but story/job quests only? Not a chance.

Close enough though that you can save a majority of the side quests for 2nd/3rd jobs if you do fates/dungeons

To level my arcanist ive been doin the story and random quests around where i am. Ill also grab some leves and do those in between fates. You can also que up for a dungeon while your doing leves and fates, the mobs in there grant a bunch of exp. in haukke manor every mob was giving me 1k exp each. (Level 50 bonus exp, rested exp, food). If you dont have a 50 it will be less, but still a good chunk. Just dont plan on doing any instanced quests while your queing for a dungeon or behest.

I think SE made a boo boo in terms of questing. It leaves a lot of players other classes stuck in limbo and forces the player to go down a path in which they have little chance to walk back on, I for one would like it if I could pay gil or something to reset all my side quest and only be able to do it once a day. That'd be enough for me. I mean after your first and second character leveling, the 3rd run through is pretty much dried out until you actually get up there enough to do Leves and such.

Unlike other games the questing mechanic in FFXIV is not intended to be the primary/only leveling option. One aspect of FFXIV that is of focus is group play. You are rewarded greatly from stepping into group play in dungeons/heists/fate with a greater xp reward. Quests (and to a lesser extent hunting logs) are non-repeatable elements of the story and dungeons/leves/heists/fates are all repeatable elements.

A good plan is to make sure you run primarily with repeatable elements while leveling using the non-repeatable elements for getting over humps.

A big error of a number of new gamers, especially those that have come from games with quests as the only leveling option, is to max out on questing with their first job. This is in fact the opposite of the intended play style. You should focus only on the main quest and job quest after about 15 or 20 to save the easy xp of other quest for sub-jobs.

Go around exploring, I could get 10k exp per zone explored within a map at lvl 40+

Do leves, they reward quite low for DoW/DoM and not too much for DoL but it's still better than doing nothing. Ocassionally you get Treasure chest that sometimes drop Aetherial Equipments. You should be able to get lvl 1 and lvl 5 leves.
