RMT spammed me todayFollow

#1 Sep 04 2013 at 2:35 PM Rating: Decent
As my title indicates, I was spammed by RMT today. I found this as odd since I haven't received a single /tell until now. I'm going to appeal to the dev team for a report function with easy access right on their name. It's too much of an hassle to deal with them right now going though the menus. Anyone else notice the RMT today?

On Sunday there was an RMT chat spamming in Gridania. Haven't seen one since.

Edit: I'm on Hyperion.

Somebody said today on Reddit that they will be implementing the Special Task Force Unit (STFU) from FFXI in FFXIV also...

But they did not provide a source, so I consider it rumor for now...

But hopefully they will do this.

Over the course of the last week I've received 3 tells for RMT. They really do need to streamline blacklisting in this game. It shouldn't be more than a few clicks. I got to watch one of them send me repeated tells while I tried to type out his gibberish name for the blacklist.

I remember getting spammed once right as soon as I logged into game. Screen was still black making the transition from now loading to actually being in game. Heard quite a few of the tell chimes and was caught off guard.

I offered them a vacuum cleaner in exchange, no reply.

Yes and they have wonderful names like Sddsfad Dfsdssad to make it ultra difficult for me to remember their name to type it into my blacklist. I keep a pen and pad handy for such occassions.

Part of me missed the old Darkfall just for how the community was able to deal with gold spammers.

You were able to kock people out of the safe tower range then gank them and loot them.

Also when you saw an obvious gold farmer doing the farming part...you could serious harass them, and if killed steal their lunch money literally.

I once had one bribe me in broken English to leave him alone to work. Took his stash, banked it, came right back and took tower damage as I killed him.

For this game, best thing we could do is not ban the gold farmers, so everyone just has to block one set of spammers or allow GM's to global mute the spammers and just let them be. Nothing worse than continually filling up your blacklist with new farmer names because they get banned and come back every 5 min.

or

YOU ALL COULD JUST STOP BUYING GIL FROM THEM...

they will go away if they are not making money

Not only that, but after a day or two they make a new account with another gibberish name and it starts all over again. In a month my blacklist will look like a bowl of alphabet soup. I wish they would lets us use the context menu for clicking on their name in chat to blacklist. I was kinda shocked to discover that you have to open your social window, go to the blacklist tab, and then manually type in the name in order to blacklist 'em.

Pen and pad is not fun.

This happened to me a few times as well.

Hopefully they add a right-click "report user" option.

You can highlight text, then copy and paste it with the usual keyboard shortcuts. Not sure if that works on PS3, but definitely does on PC--that makes it far easier to blist. I do hope they implement a direct blist option as well. There was a response from a community rep on it, saying they are considering it.

As there have also been requests for an "Add to blacklist" option when selecting someone's name from the chat log, we would like to look into addressing this as well; however, this opens up the possibility of accidentally blacklisting people by misclicking etc., so we'd like to take the time to look into this carefully.

Hit your reply key bind (Alt+R I think) then you can highlight the name in your chat area and copy it (Ctrl+C) then open Blacklist and paste it in (Ctrl+V) While you at it report em for harassment. Support Desk > Contact Us. Usually they get banned within 30 min it seems.

Thanks, that's good to know.

I seriously have to ask, who buys gil in FFXIV? This is not FFXI where there was reasons to buy gil for building relics and stuff. FFXIV throws gil at you without even trying. Unless you die a lot and teleport everywhere recklessly, I don't see a way to go bankrupt. If I ever felt I spent too much on teleports, I just do a few Leves and there is my teleport funds right there.

Depends how into crafting you get, I guess. For first-jobs gil certainly won't be integral for basic progress, and you might even get some spillover to future jobs, but I think I just dumped about 5k today for misc mats and buying some upgrades I couldn't synth myself. Can't speak for endgame FATEs yet, but that kind of cash doesn't exactly come quickly.

Same on Excalibur, I had a few RMT tells again last night. I've had to blacklist them as I can't seem to enter text into the online support system in game?!

You can, it's actually very easy. It's under system->report to support desk (or something similar), and you can CTRL+C copy-paste the gibberish name from the log.

P.S.:
The current price for 10k gil on Hades is....

Hacked accounts (well, i say hacked, but we all know the only way to get infected by whatever program they use to get your login/password is by trying to "cheat" anyhow...)

And i've heard from people that they got asked by RMT to sell them gil. I guess something like that could be temping on a Legacy server where you're stuck with 100 mil with nothing to spend it on anyhow...

Yeah I saw this on Reddit earlier... great tip! A lot of people are setting a macro for it.

I think someone mentioned you just have to be careful you don't get a tell from a friend right before... you may accidentally BL them. But since you have to hit "Yes" you may not have an issue with this.
