Anyone try switching GCs yet? Im wondering if it makes you start all over at the bottom rank or if you will have whatever the equivalent rank is to your current one when you make the switch.

No idea Gil. You should put up a Lodestone link to your dude though. Show him off, he looks cool.

Swapped myself the other day after maxing out. The first time you switch it will be free (there was implied to be a fee on further switches), and you will essentially start over in your new GC. I can still see all my seals from my previous GC on my character page, so it looks like all your progress is saved for each individual GC.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback.
It's a bummer that you have to start all over though.

I'm new to GC. Are there any GC story quests you have to do?

Yes there are GC storyquests.

What happens when you switch? Do you get to do the other GC story quests?

My GC is Maelstrom. Who do I talk to to start the GC story quest?

One word of caution if you're thinking of switching GCs: GC specific gear that you bought with your company seals will stop functioning once you leave. So if you have Immortal Flames gear and you switch to the Twin Adders, it will become unequippable until you rejoin the Flames.

Think of Grand Companies as reputation grinds for your Free Company. If you check your Free Company Profile, you will notice that each Grand Company has a reputation rating associated with it. While you belong to that GC, you gain reputation with it by doing things associated with that GC. In turn, I can only assume that as your reputation with that GC goes up, so do your rewards when doing activities associated with that GC. This is why Yoshi P said that the more people in the FC associated with the same GC, the better, because you will build your standing with that GC much quicker and thus reap the benefits much sooner. Hope that helps.

Sounds like how Conquest worked in FFXI, where you could change national allegiance, and have to start from scratch ranking up with them. And if you ever decided to switch to a previous nation, all your efforts remain intact there. (Started in Sandy, rank 10'd in Bastok and Windy, and moved back home to hang all 3 flags in my Mog house!)
