Playing NA from Japan - LagFollow

Not sure If I'm getting lag because I live in Japan, or if it's because of what's been going on with the servers but when I attack an enemy, I can see my character make the hit several times but the enemy doesn't respond. A few second later, it's as if the enemy's attack animations come at me all at one time, like the server is catching up with what's been happening in one instant, it's a bit annoying and could be a disaster if I go into a Duty with other players (then again that's on a separate server).

I have a new computer with the latest video card, so it's not my PC, also this didn't happen in beta so I assume it's because of congestion? is anyone else playing from Japan, specifically on Ultros, having the same lag as I am?

I don't know if it will apply to you in Japan, but a lot of UK players, specifically using British Telecom, have their FFXIV connection registered as a p2p connection and suffer capped bandwidth at peak times. This is causing a lot of problems with server lag for players, SE have acknowledged it as a problem on the forums (I'm told).

They are messing with the maximum connections per server. Increasing the amount of players allowed on to reduce login issues.

However, you reach a point where too many people equals lag.

I would expect that someone playing on the other side of the world would feel the lag effect first...and truth be told...you might have to get on an NA/EU server. They might raise the limit high enough so that people not in the JP region would suffer lag as to be expected.

The fact that previously there was no lag speaks volumes as to how few were allowed on the servers. I would never expect to play a game on a Japanese server and not have terrible lag.

In my experience I have seen lag affect me in this order:

FATES > Coerthas, Mor Dhona, and Cerulean Mines > Main Cities > Other hunting areas > Duty Finder.

I have rarely if ever seen lag in duty finder.

There are other factors at play, but trying to connect to a server halfway around the world is going to compound it and make it worse. The only real way to know is to login to a jp server and see if the lag persists.

you're right, I'll have to give it a try.

I live in Japan as well and am playing on a EU server. I am experiencing similar things to what you mention. Please let me know if rolling on a JP server has solved this issue. Pretty sure I will be jumping ship to a JP server as soon as they allow free transfers. This whole server thing is becoming a real nightmare.

First of all, don't be under the assumption that a new PC = power and performance. There are many low quality PCs sold, a lot of which are sold for far more than their components are worth. In no way am I saying it is caused by your hardware, just want to make you aware, that is not an acceptable answer when calling tech support and asked for your PC specs.

Secondly, from what I understand, there are lots of English speakers on some of the JP servers. I'd suggest trying to find one and relocating there. If anyone has a right, it is you (You live in Japan). Maybe try and find the one that has the healthiest population of English speakers and start a character there (which I'm assuming language is a factor, since you started on an NA/EU server?) Just hope you didn't progress far, because there is currently no way to transfer.

Please don't assume what I would say to customer service as if you're the only one who has common sense and everyone else is a fool, it sounds condescending at best, and when I say I have a new PC that's without having to go into details about the computer. The PC has a GTX 660, i7 processor and a lot of RAM, so I'm good.

As for transferring to another server, I won't be doing that. I have a LS and FC on my current server with ZAM and have a character I put time into. Like I said, when I played during beta, there was no problem otherwise I would have started another character on a JP server during that time. Beta was where I was able to test if there was going to be latency or not. I hope this is just a congestion issue since previously I didn't have a problem.

It's not your computer it's the congestion coupled with the distance from server. Even with a good connection it's a bad idea to play on na servers.

I'm in NA and I play on a JP server. I notice very little to no lag. It is about as bad/good as it was back in FFXI.

Hmmm, in that case, things might improve. I'll just have to wait a bit.

Yeah but I didn't have this problem during Beta, EA and the first few days after they opened to the public.

Sorry, wasn't trying to be condescending. I was simply stating on what was actually said and I apologize if you were offended. As for not moving, that's fine, as well. Was just trying to help. Good luck. :)

I am still experiencing pockets of significant lag after the server upgrades. I was not experiencing this the first few days of the games operation during Early Access. I will strongly consider transferring to a JP server. No sense in experiencing lag when I can literally walk to SE headquarters from my apartment.

In America it is VERY common practice for retailers to sell gaming computers with sub par GPU's and overkill CPU's to keep costs down. Theres a lot of consumers here who just don't know. They get a new computer, its marked as a gaming computer, but it has an awful graphics card. So its really a common for us over here to make that assumption. People who don't know computers want to believe they are getting a badass gaming rig for $500, and the sales man will either be ignorant or wont care, and sell them a computer with the expectation that its a new computer that will handle any game. Too many consumers will only recognize the CPU and assume that if the CPU is an i7 that it will run any game no problem.

I wouldn't take the above comment personally.
