I'm not sure if it has occurred to anyone to try this in FFXIV or not, but I have not seen any posts about doing so. I've noticed while soloing that the XP chains are a rather nice boost to the percentage of XP you get. I've also noticed that in parties, the XP split is cut rather drastically, but the chains are still there.
So, I wonder if anyone has had any data on what happens when you take a full party and try to take down much higher level mobs. Is the XP so considerably less than, say, doing a dungeon run as to make partying higher level mobs not worthwhile or is it that we've all been so caught up in the obvious paths to grinding that we just haven't experimented with the old FFXI model as of yet?
The reason I ask is that I have a lot of IRL friends playing this game and it would be nice to party with them if there was a good pay-off for doing so. Level-capping the dungeons is almost, in a sense, holding back the more skilled players in this game. Could we pull together to get ahead?
