When I'm out and about leveling questing and doing leves I see a ton of people shouting for fate grinding parties. What I want to know is there a benefit to doing fates in a party rather then solo?

Best way to describe it is if you are solo you have to do around 30% dmg to get credit if you are in a group your combine efforts have to be around 30% for everyone to get equal credit in range.

I've never joined one of the groups, but I find if I arrive in the first 20% of the progress I get full credit as far as I can see. 4k+ xp for level 20+ FATES.

From what I can tell, this is only for the XP for the kills. The Fate XP is tied to your level of participation.

For Fates with a lot of enemies, a party makes sense. For those with only one boss and nos smaller mobs, it's not that helpful.

At the higher level fates...its usually better to have a party because everything dies so fast. As a caster...you don't have time to get 1 spell off before a monster is dead. For bosses it doesn't really matter unless you get there when its almost dead. The other thing is that when you have a lot of people doing fates, the fates finish faster giving you more time to travel to and do more fates.

Not... really. I mean it does, but it also doesn't.

Take a healer for example. They can spam all they want and sometimes won't go beyond silver. Put them into a group, they heal less and dink around, and suddenly they're getting gold on everything.

It's also the fact that in a group you're more likely than solo to get the first tag on monsters, and that seems to weigh heavily into contribution.

I'd be interested to know more about the mechanics here as well and how it applies to each type of class/job.

As a tank I usually run to these solo and just spam Flash and other taunt abilities and barely end up doing any damage compared to the rest, though I always seem to get good credit.

I've tested before with just spamming Flash even and nothing else and it seems to give me credit. But if I just stand there and spam nothing it won't. And other times I work my butt off and get the same credit as if I spammed Flash :P

Also, are you noticing a huge variance in the Seals you get for your Grand Company while Solo vs Group? I don't see any difference personally but curious of others experiences.

That makes sense. I'll have to experiment some to see if I can nail down the mechanics more.

When you start to do fates in the later lvls (40+) you can really struggle to get gold rating even if you are there from the beginning. A party makes it so much easier and often people will teleport you back to the middle of the map for free which is always nice!
