I was wondering, since Gladiator can "evolve" to Paladin at level 30 with some subs, what do i gain from that exactly?
As far as i know, all it does is Lock Out even more Cross Class abilities i could have selected if i were to just remain a Gladiator.
The only thing i can think of is that it can wear perhaps one or two diffirent pieces of gear once you hit level 50, but other than that...? Any explanation would be appreciated.

It provides you with abilites that only PLD can get. Including a native 20% damage reduction at lvl 40. Staying GLD will severely gimp you.
When you need to be the dedicated tank in a party filled with the needed roles, then you want to be a paladin.
If you're flying solo, then Gladiator gives you more flexibility.
