Yes there is an auction house. It's the market board that you may have seen while piddling around in the market streets in any major city. You have to have gained access to a retainer though to sell anything, but I believe you can buy stuff at any time. Your retainer quest will come to at some point during the main story quests.

I meant to be able to sell things, like drops from enemies

Follow the main storyline. Once you get a retainer, you can place things for sale on a retainer. Until that point, you have to sell stuff to NPC.
I used to care about my sig. Then I got mocked and butt-hurt. I shall commence with the self-pity now.

You were just told how to sell things in the AH.... Most drops you might as well NPC to any NPC with a bag icon because the prices are pretty low there's not much profit for a lot of low end drop items right now.

Every single quest that you complete in this game will give you a gil reward. This includes all levequests, dungeon quests, story quests, etc. If you have completed any quests, you may have seen you can choose differing rewards, like class weapons and armor. You can also choose an item that will give you some extra gil if sold to any vendor. There are literally hundreds of vendors in this game, any one of them will buy anything from you. Trust me, you don't want anything to do with the AH quite yet, nobody wants to buy the worthless lvl 1 drop skins that you are trying to sell. Drop that crap off at the vendor if you're not going to use it for crafting yourself.

So how are these gilsellers making their money then?
I was spammed to death today by gilsellers both in /tell and, rather cheekily I thought, in shout.
Are legacy players selling their gil to these people?
Are they really levelling up enough to be able to exploit the AH or crafting or whatever exploit they have found?
It beggars belief that these outfits have already found a way to sell gil!

On legacy servers, gilsellers that already had a retainer before the 1.0 shutdown
will not have to advance through the storyline, so they can sell right away. One
more reason for me to leave.

On the new servers I suspect that the gilsellers are cranking out level 1s, spamming the easy intro quests, then by level 10 cleaning out the account, selling as a one off character, then deleting and starting over. That's why they're only offering 10K gil for $5 for now. That pattern will likely change once they've gotten some other characters leveled up more.
