Question about targettingFollow

#1 Aug 28 2013 at 10:52 AM Rating: Excellent
I was trying to set up keybinds for the toggles for target PC only and target All (for healing in fates and to undo it when the fate is over), and I ran into an issue. For PC only I mapped CTRL+SHIFT+P, and for Enemies CTRL+SHIFT+A. When I try to hit either one of those I get an error saying Target cycling is off and to check keybindings. Has anyone else successfully set up these keybinds, and if so how did you do it?

I would also know how to target people for healing in fates...

I don't know, Wint. What I hate myself is, even after having set my weapon-drawn filter to Enemies Only, it still will target those damn carbuncles and NPC's in battle. It's no end of frustration, especially since I use a controller. By the time I get scrolled through all the NPC's and Carbuncles in FATEs, the mob is dead. Really wish there was a way to filter them out completely.

This is EXACTLY what happens to me too!

I hate the targeting system with a passion, it's my number two complaint behind 1017...

I'd like to know more about this too. I find I usually don't target the closest enemy when I just tab target, if I've already got an enemy targeted. Is there a way to set up a button to always just target the closest enemy to you no matter how many times you press it?

There is a keybind available for target closest enemy I believe. I know there's one for closest PC.

Hey Wint,

I saw this on reddit:

http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/1l7tus/better_tab_targeting_pc/

Looks like after you set the binds you have to en able it as per the last screen shot:

I have yet to try this, but let me know if it works.

I am not 100% sure for PC, but at least for PS3 there was an option in one of the menus to "turn on target filtering". You have to have this option selected before you can cycle the different targeting filters. I would recommend searching through the options menus for something similar for PC. This may be the issue.

Anyone have anything similar for PS3?

PS3 has some already built in. In the target filtering menus you can filter to "All" by pressing L1+Triangle (default), or switch to enemies only filter by pressing L1+Circle, Friends (Including non-party member PCs) is L1+Square. Can't remember what L1+X is, but you still have to enable it in the options before it will work.

Yeah, in same boat using a controller on PC. Doing fates, all I constantly target are people's carby's. Irritating lol

In the menu "Enable Target Cycling".

What Gnu said, except you also want to click "Enable Customization" in order to use the L1+Circle. I am not at home to test it right now, but pretty sure the default settings for L1+Circle will target ONLY monsters and not pets. Don't quote me on it Smiley: dubious

Edit: The quoted name of the option is now clearly visible in the screenshot from Gnu

Exactly. That's how I have my weapon drawn filter set up, yet it STILL targets Carbuncles and NPC's. *frustrated*

As far as targeting PC's only, what about up/down?

I'm pretty sure you can set Up/Down through the Party List and the very last page of Keybinds. I know I set that somehow to my arrow keys and it works just like the D-pad for controller.

Are you trying to target NPC's? Like quest givers in the mob of players?

As a healer can you target a mob and have your heals go to the player it's currently targeting?

Other MMOs implemented that years ago.

You can macro that:

/action "Cure" <tt>

the <tt> command targets the target of your target.

Guess that's a workaround - it should be part of the normal targeting process.

Even Vanguard had defensive targeting at launch and that was nearly 7 years ago.

Why does it include minions in the filters it but not pets?

Good question! I would guess this will be addressed. There really is no reason at all to target Minions. Well, I guess if you want to emote. Never while weapon is drawn though.

Yes, this is why I'm so frustrated... I've already done this... Still target a million carbuncles and airship minions instead of the next fate mob.

Why not Target Nearest Enemy in Fates? Just curious.

Yeah, and it still targets NPC's whether you have it unticked or not.

Thanks for the tips, I'll give it a shot when I get home.

I'd rather have it macro's personally than have it a menu option I need to turn off. Suggest it on the SE forums~
