Noticed something about 1017Follow

So, I've seen oodles of 1017 "fixes" and they're all creative and pretty awesome, but I had this theory last night tried then and this morning. It worked. 1017 is the line to get into the queue, or the line to get into the line to play the game. So, I figured if I just stayed logged in to the character screen, (past start) I'd eventually get in without having to spam the 1017 game.

Anyone else on this? Or are you all still trying the 'click', 'click', 'click', ugh... 'click', 'click', 'click', urrrgghh... 'click', 'click', 'click', DAMMIT!" game?

The Login Dungeon has the hardest boss in the entire game, the dreaded Server Queue! I have so far been able to best this baddy in under 30 minutes every time since p4 (well, except for one time, of which I created a JP server alt!)

I don't understand what you mean. If you stay at the character screen, it stays at the character screen. If you try to login and the world is full, you are sent back to the start screen. I'd love a magic trick to be able to play, but I don't think there is one.

You are sent back when you hit the "Okay" button. Just leave the 1017 button up there for ten minutes before trying again.

I'm sure SE would rather we don't spam, but I'll keep spamming. The last two days it took me about an hour each time by spamming while my wife who didn't spam but rather went back to try again every once in a while took at least twice as long yesterday and never managed to log on the entire evening the day before that.

I noticed my fisher was getting 1017 EXP every time I found a new area. I am not even joking. Couldn't help but think that was a bit hilarious - considering.

Okay I'm just being dumb but I don't understand Smiley: laugh

You get the error message and you don't click, but after that do you mean that you'll get logged in automatically when there's a spot? Like it's an invisible queue? Or if you wait 10 minutes before clicking on the error message you don't get sent back to the start screen?

I can also confirm this. After 10-15 minutes of spamming X, X, X (PS3 player here) I get into the queue. I can also say I feel that now the waiting time is going down, but that is probably because there isn't too much people as in the weekend.

I hit start once, try to login. Get the error, confirm, hit start again, then just sit on the character select screen for 10-20mins. I try to login again, and it usually takes me to a queue.

So, as if the time you spend in the character screen waiting as requested is giving you a priority the everyone else is reseting constantly by trying and being sent back to the start screen? That seems doubtful but worth a try I suppose. I still login faster than my wife by spamming faster than her.

It's how I've done it since day one of early access and have always managed to get in within 30 mins or so. Could be shorter, but I'm usually just playing Street Fighter while waiting.

I just wait15 seconds and click again. It tells how many other people is trying to enter. It never changes the screen for me. I think it's genius whoever made this click patch..... unless they change it since yesterday no clicking would be better. I never had higher than 11. i just did a quick log I try, 64 was the #. I hope it's not higher later because my game time always is after 7pm.

To clarify, rather than spamming the 1017, just try to log in once, if you 1017, sit on the character screen and do something else, check your email, throw some laundry in. Come back after a few minutes and try again. Both times I tried this, I clicked to log in and was already at the top of the queue and logged right in.

So in short. Being logged in to the character select screen already puts you in the 1017 queue to queue. No need to rapid click.

The problem I have with this theory is that my experience two nights ago was the exact opposite. I started up the game, and tried logging in every 5 minutes or so and kept getting Error 1017. After about 45 minutes of this, I completely closed down FFXIV and started it back up. I then managed to get into a queue on my first try.

I tried this last night as well, but the "trick" of shutting down FFXIV and restarting didn't work. So it was probably coincidence that I got in that way the night before. But if my ability to get into the queue is based on how long I've been at the character selection screen, it seems highly unlikely that I would have gotten in so quickly two nights ago immediately after restarting the game.

I'm suddenly having flashbacks of people trying to get up to the Kirin floor in {sky} in FFXI. We had all sorts of theories - if you stepped on the teleporter when the in-game clock was an even number, you hit the Kirin floor, odd number was pots. No wait, that's if you're a male character. No wait, that's if you're a Tarutaru.

A friend of mine found his best luck came when he was running at the teleporter with aggro on him screaming "auuuuggggh!" in /shout.

In reality, it was just a coin toss, but it sucked when you were the poor person who flipped tails ten times in a row. Smiley: bah

i had literally the same inner response to this topic the first time it came up. I feel like the infamous kirin floor theories have been brought up before here. On Valefor it was generally accepted that if you waited til the ingame clock was about to change to an even number before teleporting, you;d be fine. Most theories about random tings like this are usually wrong, because the thing is usually in fact, random.

Doesn't mean i'm not gonna try this tonight.

You know what? That gives me an idea for dealing with this 1017 error. I'll post back with results later.

EDIT: Nope. Didn't work. By the time the ceiling fan was on high the cat was already running down the stairs, and I didn't have time to flush the empty canisters of aerosol (probably would have just clogged the toilet anyways).

Btw I used this method to get in today.

Sitting on the character select screen really does seem to put you in the queue queue.

Either a fluke or they fixed it.

It seemed to work for me, putting me into a queue of 15.

Then it counted down to 12 and gave me the world full message.

Trying this right now. When I get to the loading screen it just takes 8 more seconds to give me the error. Gonna try it one more time then I'm done for the night

This reminds of playing Halo 2 on XBL when it first came out. Everybody was convinced that hitting up on the dpad as fast as you could would guarantee that you were the host in the match. It was was funny as hell having everybody yelling "hit up, hit up" as soon as matchmaking would find a game. Looking back now, I'm pretty sure somebody was trolling us. Smiley: lol

Edit: I'm trying this waiting in the character screen for 15 minutes business to see how it goes. Wish me luck! Smiley: grin

Edit #2: I don't think this works? I just tried it, and no luck. /shrug It did take me to the loading screen at least, and then **** all over when my hopes were at their pinnacle.

Confirmed this approach is proving to be faster for me, as well. I started noticing it the other day.

I also made sure I was facing east on Windsday when crafting with earth crystals. Seems to do the trick.
