The game is simply amazing! I am as frustrated As the next guy but man when I can play I have tons of fun. It has elements I enjoyed from LoTRO with the FF twist we all love. Every level has a new surprise around the corner and no shortage of things to do. I applaud SE for this fantastic re-birth! And no this isn't an SE reach around or handy behind the dumpster.... The game speaks for itself

Love the game, loved the beta I just wanna create a character on a server and be able to log onto it everyday without the fear of 1017 looming over my head.. I'll reroll IDC i'm only 19 conj the majority of my times been 20 weaving 20 carpentry 20 botany and im starting mining and alch lol. So if i skip crafting I'm pretty sure i can catch up pretty damn fast.

Took mining to 11 today and love the way the gathering mechanics work. I hope crafting is just as fun and rewarding

honestly if you are doing quests its about the same OR is exactly the same as crafted stuff of that lv rang. Dungeons 15 16 17 those actually start dropping pieces that are better then crafted gear.

The thing about crafting is alot of them feed off each other meaning You'll need several gatherings to lv a certain one. Like how alchemy needs fishing stuff, mining stuff, and botany. how cooking needs botany and fishing, etc or say how black smith and goldsmith makes tools for the other classes if you don't wanna spend the money on upgrades or if you don't wanna wait the 5 lvs in between quests for new tools.

So its very in depth, very immersive and well thought out... and a huge time sink just look at me ROFL... i could probably be in my 30s by now if no crafting hah.

Different mechanics, but (to my taste) very enjoyable.

You actually control what happens when crafting (not "click the craft button, wait 3 sec, done). You juggle progress (completion), quality (boosts HQ chance AND exp from the synth), a limited CP supply (fires abilities, like GP for gathering), and ever-decreasing durability (limiting the number of actions you can take). Depending on cross-classing you have available, you can supercharge progress, ramp up quality with each successive success, restore CP & durability - there are many choices.

As a mark of how involved it is, you will probably have multiple crafting gear sets for 50! (Yes, that's right!) A high-CP & control (determines quality/HQ progress, like perception for gathering) set for generating HQ components, a balanced set for farming out spiritbonding gear/current level stuff, and a higher-craftsmanship (progress based - like gathering stat) set for uber-difficult stuff.

eorzeareborn.com has some good guides for starting, and their crafting guide is no exception. It gives you an overview of the process, with some nice screenies.
