Something Positive: Content every 3 monthsFollow

Square Enix plans to provide Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn with major updates every three months, "continuously adding large-scale content." So said director Naoki Yoshida, who confirmed FF14's second coming will also receive "full" expansion packs in the future.

"We've already begun work on the first update that is currently called patch 2.1 and will introduce a large-scale housing system, as well as "The Wolves' Den" - the first ever PvP content in the series," said Yoshida on the PlayStation Blog. "Furthermore, the update will include new dungeons, a new daily quest system, new Primal battles, extensions to the main story, and loads of other new content to enjoy."

The news follows a shaky early access weekend for the reborn MMO, in which servers brimmed to full and fundamental tools like character creation(!) were inaccessible. Realm Reborn is being released worldwide on PS3 and Windows PC today - best of luck to all the adventurers out there - and will come to PS4 sometime next year.

Once we weather the server storm, we'll have a beautiful and accessible game on our hands!

Awesome news! This kind of content and service certainly makes the monthly subscription well worth it. Can't wait to see what's ahead. Smiley: clap

Very cool!

So this will be more of the smaller mini-expansions or "DLC" kind of updates other games have been doing lately?

Looks very promising, and again shows Yoshi has his thumb on the pulse of the industry.

I really wish more people were of this mind. Large content updates every three months on top of full expansions? And this armory system.. We will never be bored in this game.

Yah, it sounds like they will be going a route similar to LOTRO where they had a patch every 3 months or so with new content and a full expansion at the end of the year.

Cannot wait for Wolves Den. At first I was bummed that there was no PvP in 2.0 but now i am glad. There's so much to do as it is.

Sounds good. This has the makings of the most massive comeback for an MMO in the genre's short history, access issues notwithstanding.
