Latest update from the Lodestone as of 20 mins ago:

Currently, we have stopped allowing the creation of new characters in the following worlds:

Ultros
Behemoth
Cactuar
Diabolos
Gilgamesh
Leviathan
Balmung
Excalibur
Hyperion
Tonberry
Mandragora
Bahamut
Chocobo

At present, login restrictions are gradually being eased, and cases wherein players are unable to login are decreasing. We will continue to carefully monitor and control the situation so that we may provide you with the best gameplay experience possible.

In the event of any changes in the situation, follow-up news posts will be posted here as well.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

I'm glad so many of us already made it to the ZAM ls and free company, but looks like nobody else will be joining us for quite awhile.

It really sucks for those that were waiting until launch to join us. I thought those servers were locked out of making new characters for a good while now, though.

Man that's crappy, glad I made it in when I did. I still can't get over the servers being full, you would think they would save some of the cap for launch.

Hopefully when Character Transfers open up, they'll allow JP -> US/EU server transfers too.

As of right now (6:09am EST) Ultros is open for character creation so if you happen to be awake and haven't been able to make a character yet now's your chance!

I don't get how they think that this is acceptable behavior, for those that are already in the game, that want their friends to join them on their server, or for new people joining the game, who want to join their friends. They better have an alternative available, like allowing server transfers for free and SOON, otherwise I think they will probably have another problem with people not wanting to play (or pay for) their newest game.

You say that like they're doing this on purpose. Until they come up with a proper solution the best they can do is slap band-aids on the problem. Either that or just shut down the game for everyone and say "Hey guys game's closed until we fix this. Come back later." Hah, imagine the reaction that would get.
