I realize that many people will just argue "these are normal bumps,"
but it seems a bit more like SE doesn't have the server capacity or technology to handle things yet.
3+ maintenance periods and nothing fixed generally suggests either a serious issue or incompetence in running the servers
I doubt it would actually happen (would be a marketing disaster)
But how would you feel if they wrote this off as beta 5, and released the game a few weeks from now when they got things in order?
In other words, would you rather a launch you can play -sometimes-
Or would you rather not play for 2 or 3 weeks but get a launch that works well?

They have fixed the duty finder which was the goal of the other maintenance .
In the process this current downtime could be an adverse side effect of something they put in place so people could use the DFS.

Idk, I wouldn't mind. What's another couple weeks? I don't think they will push the game back this close to release though, I feel like that would be foolish. The game does have it's problems as of now though.
Just think a year from now, we could all be looking back at this time frame and laugh about how crazy the launch to this game was. ...Or the game will have died by then, who knows? /shrug

There is a 0% chance of that happening. They would release with issues before they delayed.
An interesting question. On one hand, I feel that I'd rather have some playtime rather than none during this period. But on the other hand, as it is right now I'm just continuously trying to log in when I could be doing other stuff instead. Servers being officially offline would force me to be productive.

Most launches have problems. Delaying launch by two weeks would have probably delayed solutions by two weeks, as well.

Issues happen. My question is, is this happening on the JP servers too. It seems to only be a NA/EU issue.

SE has done a FINE job proving theyll release with issues before theyd delay.. I mean just look at Early Access... I see more threads and ppl complaining about the errors, severs locked and how things arent working than I see of topics talking about how wonderful the game is or how much fun theyre having

Unless I am looking at things wrong. They (Japanese) have less servers and less players currently playing the game. Didn't Yoshi say servers are nearing capacity on the US/EU side?

This game is simply not ready for release. SE should reevaluate the current infrastructure to see if they can handle the volume.
This game HAS to start off well, or it will fail. I hope more than anything this is the worst of it.

that would be the last nail in the coffin, SE screwed up real bad again. If they had any hope to get back the people that shunned away form the disaster the first release in 2010, they would have to make sure this release was flawless to make emends and give confidence to the potential costumer, till now FF14 was that game that was so bad the company come forth to apologize to the costumers, lets see what are the tags it will have after this second release, imo i kinda feel bad for SqE they deserved better luck as a company that made classics like Final fantasy 7-8-9 and 11

No, they didn't. They said they did, but people were still having issues. There were no 3102 or 90k errors until just recently, but there were many people still unable to progress their class quests because duties were not functioning properly.

Yes, but very few have problems this severe. I agree that delaying launch would delay solutions, but only at this point and only because in order to come up with the solutions they need to find all of the problems. Really needed a longer testing phase.

Yes SE needed a longer Beta phase 4, but testing by itself won't fix these exclusive networking problems. You should be more precise otherwise you'll confuse people. No matter how long SE tests these server fixes though maintenance, they won't know it worked until they have enough of a load to test it. So a delay would hinder progress as Thayos pointed out.

i have always been a fanboy of SE and have always defended their games but i agree this is becoming ridiculous .. if they delay launch (after what happened with V 1) it will create a PR crisis and will discredit their brand and they might as well quit the MMORPG business for good (or rebrand their whole company and try a come back a year later or so).
i think they should bite the bullet and put some serious investments into fixing their IT issues and try to power through official launch with as less issues as possible .. there will always be issues and there will always be maintenance / upgrades / updates .. but these server crashes are just too much .. what ?? they couldnt forecast the number of players and the load on the servers ???

I agreed with Thayos. My point was that it's going the way it is because they weren't prepared. Early access is basically the open beta with the level cap removed. Nothing else changed. The longer they tested open beta(may as well call it soft-launch because that's what it is), the more issues they'd have identified and been able to work toward fixing in whatever time period they could and should have given themselves.

SE cannot expect their paid customers to be their beta testers. All these issues should have been identified and resolved in beta testing. I will not signup until the game is stable.
Delaying release would still result in me not being able to play. I honestly don't see the point in delaying it. I'd obviously prefer a game that works, but if the alternative is not being able to play at all I'll snatch what I can while I still have my summer break to enjoy it.

Can't play either way. They might as well delay the game and buy a few more servers in the process.
Problem is -- it is ruining the franchise. Who wants to play a broken game? Who wants to buy a game people KNOW isn't going to work when they install it? Look at what happened to the new SimCity release. That game is a disaster. Now all this even after 1.0? They are ruining the FF name.

To OP:
I personally think a release delay wouldn't be such a bad idea. It actually feels like this release was rushed to begin with... Just let SE take a deep breath so to speak. As was mentioned before, they need to do their best to get this launch right. :)
