SE really didn't anticipate quite this level of interest in the relaunch and it shows. Day 1 seems like a rocky start, but this is probably the best thing that can happen to a (new?) MMO.
I'm willing to bet hard earned gil that some of you are incredibly frustrated and may have limited time to play this game, but bare with it. This is just step 1 of what should be a story (and a character) that you will keep with you for many years to come. The fact that it is received so well means there will be a healthy and vibrant game economy and no shortage of people to quest with years and years down the road. So, if you are tearing your hair out right now and wanting to drive a truck through SE Headquarters front door right now, just take a deep breath and try to remember the big picture here.
EVERY truly great MMO has had a rocky start, especially when the server populations are through the roof like they are right now. Servers will be added, friends will be able to reunite. As people start heading for the 30s, 40s and 50s you won't have to fight for that marmot pelt or Goat mob for the quest quite as much either. The only difference between me and (likely) you is that I am smiling about it now. You will come to smile and laugh about all of this much farther down the road. ..and it shouldn't be lost on you that I was one of those people who quit 1.0 two months after it launched and was pitching stones at people defending it. As it would all turn out, the people who stuck with it are probably going to have the last laugh after all :)
So, with that in mind, time for an early dinner and a smoke break. Happy hunting everybody!
