What do you guys think sites like IGN will rate A Realm Reborn?
#2 Aug 23 2013 at 10:06 AM Rating: Decent
Don't know I don't read reviews since they don't really tell you how the game really is.

2/10 since apparently it is a copy of every other MMO out there. including itself.

Hmm, the only thing I care about less than other people's ratings is guessing what other people's ratings will be.

This thread taught me that.

If it's like FFXI, the reviews will just be how much the author loves WoW followed by something around 5/10

Who bothers with reviews. Those things are so rigged one way or another that I don't even bother anymore.
#10REDACTED, Posted: Aug 23 2013 at 10:18 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm gonna guess 6/10 for IGN. Not necessarily my personal opinion, I'm just predicting IGN's score.

as much as i disagree what killua said might happen, IGN is kinda(read: totally) biased towards certain games.

Which is funny because Final Fantasy XI, during its heyday and a while after, racked up a modest 85 average on Metacritic. Why, even Playboy Magazine (yes, that Playboy) gave it a 100%! Smiley: lol

Anyway. If you'd asked me this question a couple months ago, or just a month ago even during the Phase 3 period, I would have said 'respectably'. Somewhere between a 75 and an 85 depending on the site, the reviewer, and whatnot. But with many of these very gaming sites now turning their attention to TES:O, Wildstar, and especially EverQuest Next and its blitzkrieg of a hypetrain for all the 'new' and 'fresh' things it will bring to reinvigorate the MMO genre, I'm not so confident how the general gaming media will rate ARR.

Case in point, I know Mike Fahey over at Kotaku is the one who is going to review ARR after shooting one of their other writers an e-mail, and pre-EQN I was told that "He says it's good, albeit standard MMO fare." when I asked about thoughts during Phase 3. I would have anticipated anywhere from a strong "Not Yet" to a weak/modest "Yes" in terms of if they would recommend it to play. Now, however, with the amount of "EQN is going to change the world" articles that Fahey put out, I'm not as believing that will be the case. The MMO genre in general tends to be more susceptible to comparisons between games than other game genres, and to a degree that's justified since you need to know which game you should be sinking hours, as well as potential monthly fees, in to. That said, with most MMO reviewers gobsmacked over other MMOs coming over the horizon that intend to "change everything", I don't know how well ARR is going to fare with its safer method of approaching things.

(Don't get me wrong, though. I personally am enjoying A Realm Reborn and am on board with it, full stop.)

True enough. Most of the time I don't agree with any site in scores. No idea why though.

****** games that sites like IGN gave them 9/10 I wouldn't even give them a 3. And games that did get a 3 I would have given them a 9. Go figure.

Well, like it or not, people actually do care about IGN's reviews (I don't).

Nobody, or very few people, cares about Kotaku's "yes/no/not yet" laughable reviews.

I've seen some games get a "no" because they were too politically incorrect.

This. As I said all big companies do it. And who ever doesn't know he isn't really involved with internet.

They should set up a review thread so we dont have a million threads of "My review of blah blah blah"
#21 Aug 23 2013 at 10:49 AM Rating: Default
I think the game is an 8+ easy. But reviewing a buggy laggy launch is always hard. There servers are going to be hit and that's going to effect these early reviews that will be coming out. How did 3102 effect review beta players? I was just reading on Destructoid that they have 4 people playing the game. Massively has a number dedicated to it. There main guy is super excited about the game.

My guess is that Meta critic will have it hovering around 8.5 I'd be excited to see it higher. Rating this sort of game is hard and subjective and I can see it deserving that sort of critical push. They worked hard on it. Polished MMOs seem to hover between 7.5 - 9 from critics.

Being conservative I'd say the sites will give it an 8.0.

I'd probably give it an 8.0 too. Especially for initial quality. Other than login issues (in the beta) the game itself has been rock solid.

Pacing of combat could be an issue, but if it works then its all subjective anyway. I like the slower pace.

In the end I haven't seen one thing that has wowed me, but everything as a whole is very polished, fun and most importantly, immersive.

I like how you push your preferences on others just like IGN and pretend that Kotaku is some little garbage site that nobody's heard of...
