Weapon Auto-Attack and DPS Clarification questionFollow

Posting this question on the official SE general discussion seemed to be bad idea since it was thrown into the second page of posts in a matter of seconds. *sigh*

Anyways, I'm looking to find clarification in what Auto-Attack and DPS mean on weapons.

For example, I'm a GLA and I'm looking at the weapons of the different GCs for lvl50 so they are all the same. Each weapon from all 3 GCs have the same Physical Dmg (38) and Magic Dmg (30). However, their A-A and DPS are different.

Immortal Flames - 29.39 A-A, 16.38 DPS, 2.32 Delay
Twin Adders - 26.35 A-A, 18.27 DPS, 2.08 Delay
Maelstrom - 26.35 A-A, 18.27 DPS, 2.08 Delay

It looks like DPS is just Physical DMG / Delay. So 38 / Delay = 16.38 or 18.27.

However, I don't get what A-A is and why A-A is higher for the Immortal Flames one? Does it hit harder with each auto-attack but slower? Wouldn't that mean DPS should be higher or at about the same?

You would think so, but lower delay and more haste tends to increase overall DPS more than just raw damage. I suppose that high damage + high delay weapons would be better for Abilities though. Still, with those number you would think that they would be closer to even.

AFAIK, Physical damage and Magical damage is the only attribute from weapon (aside from bonuses like Determination) used to calculate Weapon Skill/Spells.
You should be correct about Auto Attack, Delay and DPS.

Yes, you are correct. Auto-attack is the interval that your weapon is attacking at. What the actual measurement is, I don't know. In either case, the DPS is the actual measurement you want to look at, regardless of delay. The 'Immortal Flames' hits for ~2 damage per second less than the other two.

So why would you want a weapon that hits more often but not as hard? In a very niche situation, such as getting a hit in on an enemy with low HP, you want to hit faster than harder. If the difference between you and win is who hits first, you want to hit first, so the lower AA time helps you.

How often is this the case, though? Like, never.

Thanks for the reply guys. I'm pretty aware that normally DPS is the only number to really focus on. That seems to be calculated as your 38 dmg weapon hitting at a rate of every 2.XX seconds on auto (not your skills since those are on another global cooldown).
But again, that's calculated straight from the Physical Dmg. I wouldn't think SE would gimp the Immortal Flames sword in any way from the others, so they essentially should all do the same damage over time.

Hence, why I'm trying to figure out what the number for Auto-Attack means since it's higher than the other two.

All in all, I'm leaning toward IF for my GC due to the gear stats for Determination. I'm just curious about this sword stuff and hope it's clarified so others know too.
