Regarding Jobs and Classes...

If I am a level 30 Conjurer and I equip the WHM stone for the first time, will I be a level 30 WHM, or a Level 1 WHM? Assuming that I would automatically be a 30 WHM (I think I read this somewhere), then do the two jobs level together beyond 30? If I become a lvl 50 whm, would my Conjurer still be level 30? Or do I just unequip the stone and automatically become a lvl 50 Conjurer?

This may be something that is unknown at this time, but if someone does know the answer it would satisfy my curiousity.

Thanks!

They are synced, your WHM will be lvl 30 if your CNJ is lvl 30. Whenever you lvl 1 it lvls the other.

What about ACN? Do you auto gain levels in both SMN and SCH?

So if I have my PLD soul equipped, my GLD class will level as well?

I know it works the other way around.

Do note this is all speculation as SE has yet to release any information on how jobs will function in ARR.

As far as I know, yes. As for the Arcanist class and it's 2 jobs, I would assume it's just the same.

Actually, I ran accross this on the Loadstone site (which I guess means it is accurate?)...

- Jobs do not have their own levels. When switched to a job, the character level is that of the base class.
- EXP earned while playing as a job counts towards that of the base class
.

So this answers my questions with clarity. Thanks for the above responses as well.

Did not realise it worked this way, so there would be no reason to play the base class beyond 30 then?
I guess this is because jobs weren't there at the start, so you did play the classes themselves to 50.

When we had a discussion on this a couple of months ago, people pointed out that classes can be very useful for solo applications because ability mixing.

You might have different feelings on that if equipping the job stone stopped you from using abilities you liked having access to. I've liked using Second Wind as an emergency heal on melee classes, for example.

Ah I see, it is the ability to access skills from other classes that is so limiting about jobs, where at times you might want to play the base class rather than the job.

Hmm, no it's been explained thoroughly. Leveling either your job or class will level the other one simultaneously.

Sounds great for me short term, but not sure if this logic will work long term for SE ... Or us for that matter!

If multiple jobs spawn from a few core classes and you just have to level one job/class to 50 to have the whole class/tree at 50 takes away a lot of longevity from the game.

I am trying not to refer to ffxi as this is a different game but levelling one of the 6 starter jobs to 30 then going on a quest for a new advanced job, and then levelling each job from lvl 1, yes it's a huge time sink but levelling a new job was fun and you got to learn the nuisances of that job from 1 - 75.

If in a year or two from now I can have levelled 1 job to 50 (or 75 if they raise the cap) and then instantly have 3, 4, or maybe 5 classes/jobs at max level then it might be cool for a day or so but it would soon lose its novelty.

Anyway if that's the path SE has Chosen then I really hope that two jobs per class is the absolute max.
