Hello! We seem to have suddenly increased the number of people in the forum tenfold, so I figure I should take a moment to welcome all the new faces on behalf of the forum team. We roam the various forums for all the games and forum sections addition to your FFXIV content manager team of Wint (senior Content Manager), Elmer (Content Manager) and Thayos (content manager), righting wrongs and smiting the occasional forum ad spammers, or something like that. For any game related questions (no I don't know how to disable the jump button), the FFXIV content managers will be your best bet for answers. We're happy to help with anything else. Feel free to PM me with any questions or concerns you might have. I can also be reached at kaolian@allakhazam.com (kaolian@zam.com "should" also work but I haven't tested it)

Enjoy your stay!

perhaps this would be a great thread for me to pose this question, will there ever be specific forums for each individual class/job rather than the current grouping of all disciplines of war/magic/land/hand all together?

It really depends on the level of activity in the forum, and what Wint and company wish to do. With this many posters, I'd say quite likely. On the other hand the FFXI forums eventually ended up too fragmented, so we'll want to guard against that as well.

Welcome newbies! Please ask any questions you have - there are no stupid questions, only stupid UI designs that don't make intuitive sense.

Does anyone by chance have a list of specific sub-forums they would like to see added in the coming weeks?

A new/returning players subforum for questions will also be better than dumping it all in general so that it stays together over time.

A pvp sub forum would be great! Not much of a list, I know :(.

Good idea on the PVP sub forum. I know most people would like to see class/job specific forums, as well as server forums (those probably would be the least used however).

This welcome forum seems like a good idea to me. Also, would be nice to have a Legacy player sub-forum to separate them from the common rabble. I'm joking! Don't get all crazy!

Oh, it's a little off topic, but is there anyway you guys could add an indication to threads that you, yourself, have posted in? I'm not sure how complicated this would be, but would be a really great feature.

For now should be just individual job and server forums. Watch it for a few months and take it from there. If there is continued demand, expand from there. If there isn't, merge them to general job and server forums. While the subject is up, should probably merge the XI forums since they're essentially dead and anyone new that might wander into their would be discouraged seeing the last new post was days, if not weeks ago. Personally would be sad to see them go, but at this point they're dead weight.

I had someone who voiced some concerns to me in IRC about how the forums are in their current state. They made a few suggestions that I said I would pass along to see if they could be addressed.

Quote:
I think all the V1.x stuff needs to be gone through and archived off somewhere
I think the forums need renaming FFXIV:ARR as it is a new game

I can agree with what they are saying. The game is now A Realm Reborn and think the site and name should reflect that. Also, any newcomers are probably going to see the old content and be confused.

Thanks for passing this on Geffe.

My concern was the degree of confusion caused by the name FFXIV and the fact that there are so many necro posts many of which are now irrelevant as they pertain to V1.x I hoped ZAM would be the place to come for FFXIV:ARR info as it has been in the past for FFXI and was for FFXIV.

Any people coming here for the first time (There will be some) or old players returning, will be confused by old info often stickied which is now completely pointless and uninformative. As an example in the DOL forum the top post is a sticky for Wints "Thoughts on fishing" followed by another "So you want to be a miner " by ketage. Both were helpful 3 years ago at the start of V1 of FFXIV but neither should be a sticky.

These all need to be gone through. EACH FORUM and either moved or deleted. There are many many other threads with similar misinformation and outdated content.

This *should* have been done before now as this is the exact time that new players will come here looking for things pertaining to the new game. If it is done right away, there is a chance that people will come here again. But if it drags on like this then people will come here, say wtf! and leave thinking the forums here are a waste of time. Very sad.

There is a developer ticket in to the Devs to do something along those lines. The main question is whether to make it searchable or not. Outdated information yes, but what about the poster who wants to go find a specific sentimental post about that one time they totally got that sweet An_item_01? The necroposts we have a fairly easy system for dealing with them and sending them back in time chronologically to where they started. The other sub forums will see that less of an issue eventually as at least 50 new posts shove the old ones off the page. The forum stickies themselves can be removed whenever, I don't know enough specifically about the game to know which of the game specific ones should stay or go. If somoene want's to post or PM me a list of the outdated ones I can certanly make them go away though.
