Question about Free Company/Linkshell CommunicationFollow

As I understand it, Linkshells are essentially just chat channels, whereas the Free Company is the actual Guild with any kind of functionality that comes with it. In FF11, while Linkshells essentially were just chat channels like they are in FF14, players treated them more as Guild/Communities...so you could swap around chats and be a part of multiple communities.

What I'm wondering for FF14 is, will Free Companies have their own chat in game, or will they use Linkshells as well to communicate, which would basically allow more people (Those not officially in the FC) to participate with their group. If Free Companies were to have their own chat, it would exclude anyone who couldn't fully commit to joining their FC over another. Am I misunderstanding any of this? I didn't play during beta, so I'm not really sure how things like this worked.

To speak to your Free Company in ARR you had to use the FC chat channel. I just typed '/fc <insert FC chat>' as opposed '/l <insert LS chat>'. From my (limited) experience on this during beta people you know well are in your LS and chat accordingly, people in your FC use that channel to help organise events and stuff. As there really wasn't any end-game content in ARR Beta 3 we didn;t organise much together but really used it just to mess about with rankings and titles and see how it worked etc.
