Where does SE stand on multiboxing?Follow

After seeing the vocal minority kick and scream over at rift since they finally killed off boxing in pvp, I was wondering if SE allowed cheating like this to occur.

Well if you are talented enough to run two computers with multiple characters, and you're paying the sub fees for both accounts, I don't see how that is cheating. I used to two box in ffxi but I doubt I could do much with it in ffxiv... I tried but the most I could do was heal myself with my fiance's character while I killed even match mobs outside of gridania.

Well I meant more in the way it was being done in Rift, where someone would have 5 accounts that were /follow and had keystroke duplicator 3rd party programs to run the other four.

Well it's not the multi boxing that is the problem it's the botting and hacking that is the issue... And SE takes action against those people and bans their accounts if they find proof of the said cheating.

If they bot to do it then SE will ban them if the GM believes its warranted just like how they did in XI. But people who run multiple accounts by actually playing them should be fine.

As they should. I didn't mind stuff like windower giving a competitive advantage, or even stuff like BlinkMeNot and distance plugins for ffxi, but using scripts to automate actions is botting, and that's not cool at all. As Hairspray said, if you're good enough to 2-box legit, awesome. Go for it. If you're going to bot it, it's not cool and definitely against the ToS.

The only game i ever actually dual boxed in was EVE online. dual boxing is NOT cheating. Running scripts,however, is. If you have 2 accounts, and you are controlling them both, then more power to ya, but if you are running scripts to control other accounts...then you get whats coming to you.

Edit: too many o's

Considering that Square-Enix outright *tells* people how to multi-box for FFXIV and what all they need, I really don't think they give a damn.

Maybe you shouldn't use the word cheating in the same sentence as multiboxing. Having 2+ PC's and jumping back and forth on the keyboard is not cheating. Neither is alt-tabbing to 3 different FFXIV's.

Using a automated system is. Big difference.

Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

Isn't that like Pay to win? Even if it's not cheating you are getting an advantage by spending more money.

It's only an advantage if you're actually good at managing both the characters. Otherwise its detrimental. Can't really count it as pay to win either since all you're getting is a second account that you'll have to get gear for along with your main. Unless you're borrowing your friend/spouse/dogs account.

Absolutely.
Whether you are skilled or not at controlling two characters and if it's not cheating. There lies the possibility to beat content without others help regardless of your skill with one character, you could possibly not beat that content with one character.

Imagine a professional baseball player hiring help in the outfield to catch balls.
Is he rich compared to other players? Possibly.

In a fair competitive playing field, money should not come into play. Whether it's considered cheating or not is of no relevance. If everyone is not allowed that option regardless of income, then it's an un-fair advantage.

I realize that there is no way to stop this unless SE denied multiple accounts with the same IP. They won't go there due to wanting money and not wanting to restrict players form paying for what they want.

TLDR: It won't bother me in the slightest as long as my gameplay experience is not affected in anyway by those actions of others who do this.

Every single time this question comes out in every MMO it boils down to the simple fact that certain people can't multi-task well. Others can very well. The ones that can't get pissed because now others have advantages they don't simply because they're better at multi-tasking.

They therefore see others that can as "cheating" or "unfair advantages" and will make up all sorts of unreasonable, foolish, and down right incorrect analogies to try to not seem to jealous.

Bottom line is, on Square-Enix's own website, they've outlined exactly what you need to do to be able to multi-box. Their stance is very, very clear.

What Square Enix describes on their website is more akin to how a family can play with multiple characters on multiple machines (eg. PS3 & PC) under one Square Enix account. They do not encourage or even condone multiboxing. They do not even use the term multiboxing.

2boxing = legal

botting = illegal

Big difference. :)

I used to 2box in FFXI, too. Rng + Rdm at Kirin = fun times.

Pay to win is not cheating. Cheating is cheating.

You don't even define what the fair competitive playing field is supposed to be in this game. If it's PvE, you're not competing with other players, so there shouldn't be a concern about having a "fair competitive playing field" over this. If it's PvP, the fairness should be maintained by having an equal number of characters on each side. The multi-boxing player might have the advantage of potentially being slowed down by communication, but the other side has the advantage of having multiple players who can each focus on just their own character.
