Not being the kind of person to just give up, I hit up good ole' Newegg and started looking at the recommended GPU's for FFXIV. $200 later, I got myself a nice GTX 660 and installed it this morning. I instantly re-ran the benchmark again to see what I scored:

There's only one detail that disappoints me about my upgrade this morning. I took some RAM sticks from my old PC, and was going to just pop those in as well while I had my case open. Not thinking properly, I put the video card in first. The card was SO BIG, that after installing it, it blocked me from opening the RAM clamps. After about a 15-minute struggle of getting the card in, I wasn't about to pop it back about, just for a couple more gigs of RAM.
I wish I had thought to put the RAM in first, but eh whatcanyado?

It's all downhill from here. You'll never be able to deal with anything other than a higher end gaming rig ever again. "Can't keep 'em on the farm after they've seen Paris" sorta thing.

It appears that the card I purchased is a tad bit on the higher end than yours, but that wouldn't be such a large contributor to the difference in performance. It's definitely got something to do with the differences in our CPUs. Here's my current specs.

I thought he got higher because you're running in 1080p and he's at 1600x900. Even though you're running at "High" that resolution does make a massive difference in score. It's mostly your CPU I'd say.

I've been excited about this game since it was first announced. I'm not about to miss out on it because of my computer specs.
I'll be getting a PS4 later on next year. When they release FFXIV for PS4, I'll probably get it on that as well. A PS4 is a lot more portable than my PC.

My screen is only 1600X900. Borderless Windowed IS essentially fullscreen.

As far as they're concerned, borderless windowed is still windowed, even if the window is the size of your screen. You do take a performance hit between the two. SLI and CrossFire also only tend to work properly in true fullscreen mode.
For an MMO, I'd go ahead and take the hit, because the ability to alt+tab out easily is more important to me than a performance increase. I tend to do a lot of multitasking while MMOing.

Well, not necessarily. You could just have all that stuff going on your PC, while you played FFXIV on your PS3.
I won't doubt that it's a bit of an extra hassle, but you're not out in the wilderness. (You could even run all of those things on a smartphone.)
I played FFXI on Xbox360 for over a year before I got a PC decent enough to run FFXI at a playable level. I still used my PC for web references and whatnot.
