Phase 4
The 4th Phase of beta testing (aka Open Beta) has the following schedule:
  • Aug. 16 - If you were in Phase 3, you may begin today
  • Aug. 17 - All others who weren't in closed beta may begin today
  • Aug. 19 - Phase 4 ends
Note: Level progression will be capped at 20 for Open Beta (presumably for fresh start servers), but this progression will be saved for Early Access and beyond, barring a critical bug that requires a reset.

Early Access
Following this, Early Access for those who purchased pre-orders or have the Legacy Subscription Status will occur on these dates:
  • Aug. 24 - Early Access begins
  • Aug. 26 - Early Access ends
  • Aug. 27 - FFXIV:ARR officially launches

Welcome Back Campaign
For anyone who bought and played FFXIV 1.x (the 2010-2012 version of the game) for the PC, SE is letting you download and play FFXIV:ARR for a free trail period.
  • Aug. 27 - Welcome Back Campaign for 1.x players begins
  • Sept. 9 - Welcome Back Campaign free trial ends

Early access starts 8/24.

So much for having a week for either one. SE sure knows how to under deliver. :-P

Eh, they're damned if they do, damned if they don't. People who don't get early access will complain if you get too much of a head start, people who have early access think it's not enough time. Look at it this way, only 19 days until the game is up for good Smiley: nod

With about 6 of those days being playable for a good chunk of people as well. :) Happy chappy here!

I guess on the bright side I won't have to call in to work and take some personal days in the next couple weeks since I'm off the whole time it's up. Hopefully they won't try to schedule any training for my new position on that Friday, I will have to tell them that there is no way XD.

phase 4 is capped at level 20 for that exact reason.

Meh. 6 days of early play is more than most MMOs, but either there was a previous mistranslation or... I dont know what, because I read comments from SEs own CR team of Yoshi saying P4 was a week. I think that is the only truly disappointing part.

In the long run, all that matters is how smoothly the game launches and how good it is, but I am sort of amazed at their ability to create disappointment through poor information management. If it's just going to be the last two weekends before launch they could presumably have said that a long time ago.

Too much suspense for underwhelming news is all.

Im cool with any start date actually, the slight progression gained is so little considering ppl will be in this for utterly years.

Honestly, I think it's enough that FFXIV is now a game people want more time to play. Smiley: nod

Bah, I'll be out of town that weekend Smiley: mad

I'd rather have them polishing things up at this point, instead of giving us a full week+ of playing time. We've waited this long for launch, a few more days shouldn't give you cold sweats.

Like I said yesterday, when he said "1 week" he probably meant the process of Phase 4 is one week. Like Phase 3 was 5 weeks. The community assumed it was going to be 24/7 play time for a week. Just like they had assumed, "there may be a longer than a weekend test near the end of phase 3" = weeklong testing.

Technically, there is no ending to Early Access. They won't shut off the servers, you can play straight through.

You're just full of **** and vinegar this morning aren't you?

I'm kind surprised people aren't complaining about the "benefits" of paying for 90days+ upfront and bribing us with reasons to do so.
#22REDACTED, Posted: Aug 08 2013 at 9:37 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Not really. Just my pessimist side peaking through after hearing of the level cap. As if I could get a class to 50 in 2.5 days

Maybe you couldn't, but others could. 24/7 playing for 2.5 days and I'd expect some players at cap. I think it's excellent that they've capped phase 4 at 20, and in fact, I wouldn't mind an early access cap either. Will give me more time to level up my crafting classes.

For me, it's bad timing. Classes start on Aug 26th, so while I agree with the cap, I'm pretty sour about it because by the time the game goes live, I'm gonna have to deal with school work. I'm contemplating preordering the game (and I'm a 1.0 non-legacy player) just so I can have that enjoyment time.

I'm trying to help my friend figure out what he would get access to from 1.0. He had bought the collectors edition for 1.0, but didn't play it for very long due to lag issues. So he never hit a point where he had to pay the subscription.

As such, I would assume that he does not fall under the "Legacy Subscription Status" for early access. So I'm guessing that he should get the following:
- Free download of the game (doesn't have to buy a copy of the game)
- Free trial access from release until Sep 9.
- NO early access

Does that sound correct?

No.. if you want to pay 90 days upfront you can so you get items asap. If you decide to just play as normal and pay monthy you will get the items in due time. Either way you get the items jsut depends on when.
