Just wondering, will you be able to private chat with someone on your friend list at the same time you are both playing?

And secondly, will you be able to form a party with said individual and enter dungeons together with 2 other random folks?

PS3 does not currently support voice chat in-game. You have to exit all applications to start a voice/video chat room. You can form a party with one or two others and have the Duty Finder fill up the queue, yes.

Unfortunately no... I think Wint has a link in his signature for a cool alternative to this using a cheap computer that attaches to your TV. For about the cost of a decent headset you could have this setup.

I'm pretty sure there is no internal voice chat in-game, but I have no idea how that effects things on PS3.

As per the second question, yes you can group up and get 2 more people and enter a dungeon. Heck, you can have all 4 people group up, and still use the DF and immediately be ported to a dungeon. It's a nice shortcut.

As far as I know there will not be chat/mic support for the game on PS3.

The answer here is definitely, yes.

Edit: Bartel beat me to it. So I don't think there will be PS3 chat support, but I always have my laptop closeby for looking up maps/quests etc. So I will just also use it to run skype or some similar program.

Edit again: wow looks like just about everyone beat me to it. Also, I hate when there is no autocorrect for capitalizing "i". I guess I am just spoiled by autocorrect.

Yeah, and keep in mind that the PS4 will support in-game voice chat. You may want to look into buying one for FFXIV.

Can you clarify. PS3 has in game chat, but ffxiv doesn't have it. So, are you saying that ps4, ffsiv will have voice chat?
Does that mean also that the pc version will have it for ffxiv?

PS4 itself will support voice chat like Xbox 360 has cross-game group chats through Xbox Live. FFXIV itself won't support voice chat, no. For the PS4 it will be separate through PSN.

If the chat is available only through PSN does that mean that we can only chat with ps4? Not pc?

Yep, just PS4 friends. You'd need something like Skype, Ventrilo or TS to chat with both PC and PS3/PS4 friends all at once.

Use Wint's link to set up a chat program.

Download a Skype/Ventrilo/Teamspeak application for your smartphone and use that.

There are always workarounds.

Eww, being an XBOX 360 junkie for so long has spoiled me. In FFXI I could pop open XBOX Live party chat in the middle of playing and voice chat with all party members that we invited into the party chat. Sad that PS3 doesn't have that feature. I still have to buy it because it is cheaper than upgrading my PC to play this game ($220 vs ~$800), but dang, I hate typing while I am fighting. *Seeks out keyboard controller for PS3, and cries a little bit*

Check this out

That's what I'm using for FXIV on my PS3...

It works pretty good, you'll need to buy the PS2 --> USB Converter also but it's so worth it IMHO.

Just this

But I hate using those for MMO chat... I had one for the XBOX 360 for FFXI and wound up buying a USB keyboard for it and never used the little keypad thingy because it was so difficult to chat with.

Strange enough, that's right up my alley. I got used to the XBOX 360 one. Now if they carry those at Gamestop...

I bought a wireless logitech kb from Radio Shack that I just put in my lap. It's not a perfect solution, but for the little bit of chatting I did, it worked really well.

PS4 will support Skype. So that is the most likely way that everyone will be able to chat together PS4 and PC together.

Our LS uses Vent, and at the moment, that works best for big groups.

Skype is currently limited for larger groups, so hopefully they will be upgrading their servers and software for gaming due to their deal with Sony and the PS4.

You can get these a lot cheaper from Amazon That is where I got mine from and I love it. Only paid about $25 for a brand new one, unopened.
