Same for me man, I haven't played xi in soooooooo long but it is the only MMO I ever liked. I've been waiting for it to come out on ps3 forever I bought the special edition for PC a while ago but it's too crappy to run it. Used to play xi on 360. As long as I have the same experience I did in xi partying up and playing with new people i'm good to go.

Woot, welcome fellow PUP enthusiast! They do show off a lot of mammetts in XIV, which look almost exactly like the Harlequin Frame, so here's to hoping XD. I was on Sylph from the PS2 launch until around 06-07 when i took a break for a few years. I came back for a few months this past year and I migrated over to Phoenix to play with my new (at the time) girlfriend whom was from Titan before the merge. We actually hit it off because of us both having played FFXI.
A lot of us from the forums here are going to be rolling on the NA/EU server Ultros in Phase 4/Launch. It's a new server and a lot of us are planning on making our claims early :D.

I started ffxi at NA PC launch in ....was it like October or November 2003? Anyway, I made a Mithra on the Fairy server and named her Fido (which was what I named all my online characters back then, even though she was a cat).
I ended up getting her to level 55 or something as a DRG (wyvern named Rover :D), then quit in mid 2004.
I came back a year later and started on Fairy again as a Hume male named Brit, and played that one off and on (jumping between FFXI and WoW for a few months each at a stretch) until around 2010 when they merged Fairy with Sylph. Some level 1 mule or something was already named Brit on Sylph, so I had to change my name to something I can't even remember now. I quit for good around a month later.
I have some really fond memories from my years there on Fairy, and I'm proud of the fact that I finally got into Sky, got into Sea, did all the Dynamis zones and got my cool looking DRG relic gear (good for solo only of course), all despite the fact that I wasn't the type to be in endgame activities originally. I met some really nice people over time that proved to me there's nothing to be afraid of as long as your linkshell is nice to you and you show up on time and contribute.
The fondest memory of all though is my time in Sarutabaruta listening to that mellow music while everything was fresh and mysterious.

I quit FFXI just a short while ago myself, maybe in 2010 or so... a 6-year run!
After Abyssea I just lost interest because I had started over with my fiance and nobody was playing any characters under level 75 so we couldn't catch up. It was a real shame.
FFXIV is bringing back all of that excitement for me that I had felt in 2004 when I first picked up FFXI.
I can't wait to make my character, my fiance and I are going to be playing on Midsgardsmr (SP?) server, we already have a Free Company (LS?) that we applied to on that server.
Yeah they did a great job of making FFXI players feel at home in FFXIV: ARR, something that was missing entirely in the first release.

I played FFXI on Asura until 2008, and have so many fond memories of the game and the friends I made. I'm looking forward to meeting back up with a few on the Balmung server, once game launches.
Played for 2 years on Asura (hence the name), quit in 2009.

FFXI was my favorite mmo Ive played and its been like 2006 I think since I played. I have probably one of the more confusing experiences of playing the game than anyone. My run through the game was complicated because I started on bahamut as furball and then quit/sold it cause I was tryin to date a girl :) then I came back year later bought a 75pld Almaa. Then friend of mine wanted to trade accounts so I did and then he ended up changing the name to Shayda. After few weeks he wanted to trade back lol so we did. Then I took Shayda and Leveled every job to at least 66 and beat maat on every job and got the maat cap. Think I was the 1st American to do that on Bahamut. I was a level pimp and often made people that weren't in my groups mad cause I would powerlevel myself with a 75whm on another pc and a friend of mine would group with me and he had a 75whm to PL as well. So our groups usually dominated :). Wasn't to long after maat cap I decided to quit since I was at the time mostly a level ***** and figured I had enough.
i was cubby from kujata. one of the first galkan bards on my server. played from 2003-2009, man i miss ffxi. i hope that ARR will fill that void.

I was Alkaiser from Fenrir server and played from ps2 release till about 2010 or whenever abyssea was released.
I might start on Ultros server with a bunch of my old fenrir buddies. I chose ultros because its FF3 for snes/aka 6 my favorite FF and ultros was hilarious character to boot.

FFXI was my first MMO. I played from 2004 until mid 2011, and I had two characters on the Ifrit server. The first character I played was named Zayh. I took a break and when I came back decided to start a new character, named Xaral, who I played for the vast majority of my time in game.
I played off and on on Shiva since NA PC release. I stopped near the end of 2011.
I started as THF, then NIN, then solo DRG.
In the beginning I was in a hardcore LS (unbeknownst to me) there was some drama among the leaders (not me) and I left. Then I was in a social LS for a while.
I only really had a few friends but a lot of them left after the first year. The community was nice, but when I came back in 2011 it was a totally different game. GoV and FoV was fun, plus I was able to do CoP (which I never finished). I was in a JP party as a DRG and I was horribly undergeared. My once awesome scorpion harness was now embarassing.
I didn't have the time to keep playing so well, then I quit..for good.
In the end I doubt if anyone remembers me lol.

Phrozen. Titan server. Started playing not too long after launch. 75 Thf/Rng/War and 73 Drg...I wanted to go back and work on Pup until I heard everything changed. FFXI was my first MMO experience. Missed the feeling that it gave me, and I say "missed" because ARR has given me that same feeling. Can't wait!

Bartel- Siren for about 3 years, then Carbuncle for about 3 more. I was much more hardcore back then. Though I loved the game, I'm glad XIV is moving in a different direction. I'm ready for something new and lasting.

Habien on Fenrir. Had a 99 SAM, 96 BLU, 68 PLD, and some others around 50 for subs. Started on the NA PS2 release, played for a couple of years, went back after a few years to play for a few months, went back again after they raised the level cap to 99 and played for a few more months.
