I think anyone who leveled the job old school (bombs vs flies in Gusgen, bombs vs bats in Garlaige, the list goes on and on), wants to see the job happen with some form of charm. I'd also be up CC making a comeback. Leveling bst to 75 solo or in small bst parties was probably one of my best experiences in XI.
Charm was drew many to BST because that's what let you solo for exp. However, if leveling wasn't so dependent on getting into parties and the game allowed most jobs in general the ability to solo, Charm probably wouldn't have been necessary. Charm also became a sticking point with any content where there weren't charmable mobs (Sea, Abyssea, Nyzul, Salvage, etc).
I think that in general, FFXIV has gotten away from problems that drove people to playing BST in order to charm mobs. If BST in FFXIV doesn't have to rely on charm, you don't need to design content that has charmable mobs.
When Abyssea came out and they buffed jug pets in FFXI, many BSTs wanted to see a pet system where your summoned pet was more personal and would develop (level up, sort of) with you. Perhaps BST in FFXIV will be able to explore that type of play. Even without Charm, BST could have a similar type of crowd control. Perhaps something like Tame, but with lower cool down like Charm, where a successful use of the ability would cause the mob to go passive and wander away from the player before it could become aggressive again.
Lyonheart, like Eorzia, will be reborn in FFXIV!
