Quest: Victory in PerilFollow

#1 Jul 13 2013 at 11:11 AM Rating: Good
I am frustrated to no end. Not only are the level 15 story quests extremely difficult, no one has posted ANYTHING about how to do them. I have a 16 MRD I would really like to get out off LL but thanks to that stupid ferry guy wanting 11k gill there is no way. I am stuck on Victory in Peril. I don't die, but I keep failing the quest because I don't know what I need to do. Whomping the boss dosen't seem to do it.

I didn't fail any duties until the fight in... um... the place near the field of dodos whose name I can't ever seem to remember.

Remind me what the quest was, not where I can see it now.

In Moraby Bay First you kill 2 sets of pirates, easy. Then you run up to the ship. You are joined by a mage and a dd. There is a boss you start with. Mage heals you. lv20's show up. You are told to keep the boss busy. I do, quest fails

I was stumped when I first tried that quest, too. When the boss battle starts, completely ignore him. Look behind you and you'll see some bad guys sneaking up all evil like. Kill them immediately or else one of your NPC buddies dies. After that, you attack the boss for a bit before the other adds pop up. You help kill the adds before finishing off the boss.

Ah yes, that one, yes. Don't bother with the boss until last. The NPCs can hold their own on him. Instead, whip around and kill everything once he calls for reinforcements. Start with the mage, the rest fall quickly enough after that, then when the Mamool Ja appear, go after them even if the boss is on you. The reason is that otherwise you are alone versus the boss, and the healer NPC divides their time too much between you and the other NPC to keep you both alive, plus then they draw threat from everything. Just be sure to watch the healer, that's the one that normally blows this mission, they take hits about as well as a pane of glass...

Perhaps a rule of thumb to go by if you have played other MMO's or haven't, during any encounter that has a objective and there are adds, the adds becomes your main objective in taking care of afterwards you can go after the main objective. While the npc may hold their own for a bit over time they become overwhelmed and then you have to deal with them w/o the npc support.

Corrected that, because, really this has been a thing since paper-and-pencil campaigns. It's an imperilment strategy that works well because that way your player can be vastly capable of handling a threat, but they are still at risk of losing, and that risk of loss is nearly entirely in your control.

And I lied slightly, I did fail this one the first time I tried it. I honestly had forgot, the first time I ran in too fast and got pwned by the second set of enemies. I hadn't planned ahead enough to rest up a bit between encounters, was rushing. But yea, when I saw the spawns, I knew I had to get my *** on them, especially since they come up from behind, and normally will be staring down the healer right off the bat.

Ok thanks. Didn't see the pirates behind me. Took out their mage and two others, then it was a piece of cake.

Yea, I just happened to have my camera pointed that direction at the moment he called for reinforcements, so I broke off and put my axe in their faces.

Also in the lower left corner you should be able to see all the enemies that are engaged, when more show up the will appear there. Just to help out to let you know when adds appear.
