a friend of mine supposedly says SE is letting legacy characters (which to me means 1.0 character that are max level) transfer to non legacy servers on day one... is that true? if so that kinda defeats the purpose of having legacy and non legacy servers

I think legacy players will have to stay bound to their servers to prevent us from messing with the entire game economy at the start of the game.I'm waiting to see what restrictions will be placed on cross server groups to stop RMT people from using it.

From my understanding legacy players are staying in any legacy servers, but anyone that isn't can be in which ever server they want. My question for you is what happens to the people that missed legacy by a week or got pretty far in the game but had complications with their account. Are they able to join new servers with their level 50 characters?

My understanding is that existing 1.0 characters (legacy or not) are intact and limited to legacy servers.

Indeed. Just because you didn't pay doesn't mean you didn't accrue the wealth new servers want to avoid.

Edit* and capped skill sets.

1.0 chars are limited to their own servers and at some point (they are thinking at least 6 months) they are thinking they'll look into allowing transfers depending on if the economies have caught up/balanced.

When the time comes, they could always put a cap on the amount of gil you can transfer with. I realize some people would probably hate that idea, but it would help to prevent the new servers' economies from being broken.

Eh.. I really don't think any players have brilliant evil schemes for unbalancing the server economies by paying real money to transfer. Anyone who transfers probably just wants to play with their friends who made a new account.

So much doom and gloom over this subject..

Well as a crafter being on a non-Legacy server would be funny. At the same time...Having to wait for the community to level up to do anything. Would be rough.

It doesn't have to be evil for a sudden influx of huge amounts of money to destabilize an economy. Ask the Russians before World War 1. They'll tell you.

thanks for the answer... thats pretty much what I thought.. so it would seem my friend is teh one whos ignorant and not I (as he claimed) Also im going to pretend I didnt get the Killua treatment (subbed) for asking a question. It took awhile but now Im finally starting to feel like im back on the FFXI Gen forums (cant wait til we start having active server forums.. those were always much "safer")

I don't think that they will allow them changing to new servers, atleast not for a long time. Maybe after the first major update/exspansion when new servers have settled down they might if legacy servers are barren, but even then I doubt it.

I do however hope that they allow the duty finder to pull from legacy servers, and that they do not allow trading to cross servers.

I know they shut down one vector of trading: I was trying to give our tank some Mole Loaf in Haukke Manor and you can't trade with people in instances. I'm sure that's so you can't trade money/items from Legacy to non-legacy or cross servers in general.

Not sure if your wording is off, but just to clarify, a legacy player can make a character on a non-legacy server and is not confined to the legacy server, only his legacy/1.0 characters. And that answers your question... No. All 1.0 characters, legacy or not, are restricted to the legacy servers for now. This may change in the future, as the new servers start to gain more higher levels though.

I read this same comment Perrin. (Btw, good to see you!)

There will be world transfers at some point of course. By the time they allow world transfer for Legacy characters, I expect there will be enough maxed out players on Non-Legacy servers that it will be a non-issue.

They have stated that world transfer will not be available on day 1, thus the warning to choose 1.0 character transfers to new Legacy servers carefully.

Someone called me?

In all seriousness though, why wouldn't you just have a friend with a new account roll on a legacy server?

Ok so for my doom and gloom part of the post; I'm thinking SE will run into issues restricting legacy/1.0 players to servers. Not that I disagree with it, but I'm pretty sure we'll see the new player servers pulling in the majority of the ARR fresh launch crowd. Legacy servers will be filled with legacy players and a few of their friends they can con *cough* vince to join up. The economies will never 'even out' as people put it because the markets will be so different. The only way that it would even come close is if SE decided to let players trod through old content for ages until nobody wanted anything.

For all those who bash me for not making my criticism constructive, I'll just add that this is a problem that can be fixed in several ways. The first and easiest way is already out the window in the form of character resets. The second (and slightly less jilting) option would have been a soft reset. Instead of wiping character progress completely they could instead soft reset and lower everyone to the secondary job cap. The third and probably most appealing option would be to have some sort of bonus incentive for new players to join legacy servers. Sponsor-a-noob campaign could work well to at least soften the issue facing new players joining up.
