Dungeon Loot SystemFollow

I'm out of town most of this Beta weekend and I'm afraid I won't get back to my PS3 to try the new Duty Finder system this session. I've held off trying to enter any dungeons so far as I didn't want to wait and /shout when there were other facets of the game I could be experiencing. After reading a couple of threads today, I noticed a few people talking about dungeon members "greeding" for gear. I think I also read about "want" and "pass." I believe I can figure out what "pass" means in relation to equipment drops, but can someone please explain the "greed" and "want" aspects to me (or just the entire system)? My only MMO experience is FFXI pre-Abyssea. I'm not very well versed in MMO systems or terminology, but I want to learn. If there are other aspects of the system you feel I should be aware of, I'd appreciate any information.

Thanks in advance for your help. I just didn't want to wait another week until I can play to find out more about how this works. I'm so excited for this game! Thanks again.

You can roll need if you are an eligible class, otherwise you only can "greed" or "pass". Greed is rolled only if no one else "needs".

Also this leg of the beta is going on past just the weekend. So far no end date announced so maybe you'll get in a little play time after all!

Need only shows up if you can wear it so a CNJ can't roll on glad gear etc. Greed is the second option and only rolls if no one hit need. Pass is well you just don't care about what happens to it and don't want it.

I ended up getting back in time to try Duty Finder a half dozen times. I really enjoyed it. I was also able to experience the Need, Greed, Pass system first hand and even got a few upgraded pieces of gear for my CNJ. That actually brings me to my next question: what is the difference between green and pink bordered equipment? In the dungeons, we had several pieces of green and pink gear drop during the runs. At first I thought it might be a quick way to distinguish between melee and magic gear, but as a CNJ I received a couple pieces of each. Both colors were clear upgrades to my existing gear. Does anyone know what the colors are supposed to indicate? I appreciate any clarification you can provide. Thanks.

There was talk in game about players getting loot by winning the roll. Some people complained that the player didn't do well in the dungeon and should have passed. Sour grapes if you ask me.

Going by http://xivdb.com/, green items have higher stats than pink. My guess is that green is the equivalent to a high quality version.

Edit: Now that I take a better look at it, all the pink items are listed as only untradable. The green items are listed as either unique or untradable and unique.

I totally had a guy complained that he didn't get any loot because every time we popped open a coffer it was for GLD. I was pretty happy since I was able to upgrade my gear. I felt the system of "need", "greed" and "want" is excellent. Most of the people I partied with were all really good about that as well. If you're not the class of the dropped loot, you passed, I did the same. But for that one guy that complained that he didn't get anything, well, I guess that's the random drop that was just not in his favor at that run.

I also want to know about the pink and green borders around the gear. I suspect they are rarity codings, like in Borderlands 2 as well as other MMOs/games.

Pink/Green items, putting it together it appears that there are pink/Aetherial weapons at the same level as white/common items. The pink items are more powerful, obviously rarer, but are untradeable. The green items are specifically drops from dungeons, I have not seen a green offered from a leve, or a leve chest (though I've seen Aetherials), and they're more powerful still. Given the random nature of dungeon drops it is good to see green item retain high effectiveness beyond the drop level. For instance the Taurus Staff (lv23) for THM dropped in Toto after I'd leveled myself to 29 via the Keeper and it was better than the store-bought staff I had.

Also, neither Green nor Aetherial gear come with materia slots.

I like the loot system. It seems fair and generally rewards everyone (most of the time) unless you get a bad apple or a bad roll of the dice.

I have a couple questions.

1) Do you keep the countdown screen up the entire time and choose Need/Greed/Pass options repeatedly as they update, or should you disengage and reengage the Treasure Coffer each time to check the new roll?

2) Did anybody else notice that the first 2 Treasure Coffers in any dungeon didn't provide any prompt menus or items to anyone? Then starting at the 3rd it began providing items as normal. I only noticed this last weekend in Beta 3 Phase 4, but not B3 P3 prior.

Won't your available options potentially change depending on how everyone votes, and if so wouldn't you need to keep the Treasure Coffer engaged and/or check it again?

Yeah it seems like if there's just potions and the Allaghan pieces it just randomly distributes them to the party. If there's an actual equippable item you roll on it.

Performance-based rolls would be a neat concept... but then someone would get screwed by the mechanics for sure.

Let me phrase this a bit because I realize that it sounds bad, but we have all had the loot-whoring leech who either is constantly AFKing or just sits in the back doing little to nothing. That's where it would be neat, not to be able to pass judgment on how well you play, but more on that you actually played.

This is my experience too. It took me an open chest or two of wondering why I couldn't scan until I realized it was instantly transferring general item drops (oh Hello text box).

No.

You click on each item you want to vote for and hit need, greed or pass. Once you're all done with it, you can move on. If a new item drops, the Loot button will be available again.

It would be awesome if you could designate which of your leveled jobs would be your "need" job for your current run. That would allow people to do runs as healer and tanks while seeking DD gear, which would probably be good for everyone.

The issue there is you'd run into situations where you've got 4 people rolling on, say, CNJ gear, including the CNJ who can't figure out why his need rolls do nothing.

It'd be quite a frustrating experience.

Performance based rolls would do more harm than good in my opinion, sure having somebody afk is annoying, but that could be fix with a quick patch, just add a KICK option, and have it need 3 out of 4 votes to kick X person, nobody wants an afk player, so getting 3 votes would be easy, now performance wise, that would open an entire different can of worms, what would be the standard ? The players that clear end game content ?

Well people will act like that always I am afraid.

I was in a dungeon I believe Copper bell mines and there were 3 upgrades that dropped for me and the healer managed to get all of them. I didn't complain for the simple reason it was luck and only luck. I did 2 more runs after that and got the gear so who cares.


As for the "he wasn't good and should pass" I would just answer them with a question. If you were the one that sucked in there would YOU pass on the loot? Of course not and they shouldn't even say it. If they thought he was not good they could drop the party for a better one any time! People will always find a reason to complain ALWAYS!

The loot system is great really a fair chance for everyone. The only problem is the people that are using it.

I agree with this, as loot is scarce enough in these instances, if you get 1 need lot a run and have to compete with 4 people I sense imminent butthurt. :p

I would prefer this rarity if that meant I could do dungeons as a healer while looking for gear for a DD job. There is always a lack of healers compared to other jobs, which results in people needing to wait around. People would be able to form parties faster with my idea in place, and the chances are low that everyone would be after the same pieces of gear.

Yea I think is is odd there is not something for everyone since there was a 1/2 dozen coffers.. I did a run this past weekend and nothing for a mage period.

I worry about that too.. I am CNJ and got a party in seconds with the duty finder and my girlfriend it took 20 min... We wanted to do the run together too but it did not seem to let us do it.

While I was standing there I got a ton of invites from parties.
