I played 11 forever.
I played 14 when it came out.
I quit because...well.
I found my old 14 disc, but I can't find the registration code. I have like 3 reg codes inside, but they are all for like, a certificate and things like that.
Also, I can NOT, for the life of me, remember my POL password. I think I know it, but the other thing is, I can't find either of my two little password dongles (the one from 11 or the one from buying 14).
I was hoping someone could point me in a direction of recovering my account. From what I understand, when 14 re-launches, I will have my old character levels from when I played, correct?
Also, I really, really, don't want to have to pay for the game again, is there anything I might be able to do? This is a new PC, I wiped the one with the 14 install when I sold it. (Built it to play 14... sold it... Built one to play SW:TOR, played it for a year... quit...but still have the PC this time thankfully.)

Last time I recovered my FFXI account it was a complete pain. I succeeded since I managed to find the old credit card that the account was attached to (by calling customer service). Now I've lost my all my account info again and doubt I still own the last credit card I used. SE Customer service by phone is your best bet though assuming you have the wealth of information they require.
Yeah I don't have that CC anymore. :(
And I remember one time that I had to do a recovery, I was an idiot and didn't give my actual birthday when I registered... Shame on me, I guess...

While I can't recommend providing false information when creating an account, if you do happen to do that, you can always send yourself an email and hide your account/fictitious information within the email and send it to yourself. Then if you're using gmail, you simply star that email or stash it in a folder. You never know when you'll use that information again, but at least it'll go through formats, house fires, dog-eats-laptop, etc.
When I recovered my FFXI account, I think it took the POL reg code (which somehow I was able to find), the address I lived at when I'd last played, and the names of some of the characters on the account.
Do you really need your POL account to get your FFXIV stuff back though? If you don't care about playing FFXI, you probably only need your SE account recovered, which should be a much simpler prospect.
Calling them is your best bet, get a real person to help you do it. I know their live chat claims to be manned by real people, but I'm... unconvinced.

Make sure you remember the email you registered it under, and you can put in a ticket to recover login/password.

A large portion of identity theft comes from within the household. If someone, a vindictive family member, a friend you thought you could trust, a spurned roommate, a child with a destructive streak, were to find it and they could take your credentials and do whatever they wanted. It's actually the least secure way to store user credentials! Also if you lose that piece of paper your out of luck.
Oh and the NSA can sure as hell see it...every time you use it to log in! They could just ask SE for it too...
