I noticed many players are standing in one spot and shooting the mob with their bow the way we did in XI and 1.0, so I thought I'd mention something..
The way the controls are in this game mimic the industry standard right now and deviate a lot from the old way of SE. If you want to improve your survivability and mobility, the first thing you should do is drop your left and right turn keys and learn to turn with the mouse.
Unbind A & D from turn and rebind them to Left & Right Strafe keys. This frees up Q & E for abilities that require quick execution such as a Bind ability or a Stun. Using A & D to strafe you can now use the mouse to direct your character and never have to stop moving. Your left hand can now control movement and use abilities simultaneously. In the case of a class like archer, you can now Strafe away as you're shooting and kite the mob, resulting in 0 hp loss. I also unbind my "S" key and use that for abilities as well since Strafe+Mouse eliminates the need to walk backwards which is much slower than strafing.
For most of you MMO vets this is old news, but I thought I'd share it to help out the old FFXI vets that may not have spent much time with this type of control.
Cheers
*It feels weird at first, but once you get used to it you'll never go back.
